Health/Infirmary Fees

A graduate student may access the Boston College Health Services in two ways:

  1. Payment of Health/Infirmary Fee: This is a $195 charge per semester or $390 for the year and allows you unlimited visits to Health Services. (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH BOSTON COLLEGE STUDENT ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS INSURANCE PLAN.)

  2. Fee-for-service: Graduate students may also be seen during the academic year on a fee-for-service basis at a charge of $70.00 per Primary Care Center visit, $80.00 per Specialty visit. The fee is reasonable when compared to outside services. No care is available on campus for family members; however, a medical insurance plan is available.

All charges, including fee-for-service*, will be added to your student account, and you will be billed by the University on your Student Account Statement. Payment to the University is your responsibility.

* If you have purchased the Boston College Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan, the BC Primary Care Center's fee-for-service charge for each visit may be reimbursed at 100% after a $20 per visit deductible, up to the combined outpatient maximum benefit. This deductible is for the visit only and does not apply to any laboratory tests,  x-rays, or other testing that may be ordered.. You must submit a claim form and charge statement to the insurance company for reimbursement.

Health Care Value Management, Inc. Preferred Provider Network Has Been Integrated Into The First Health Network

As of January 1, 2007, the HCVM Network has been integrated into the First Health Network. The First Health Network brings you all of the benefits of the network that you currently have plus more!

This bigger and better national network means you will have greater provider choice, national access and most importantly, greater savings! Even though our network name is changing, our absolute commitment to quality and service will not.

The First Health Network is a network of physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers who have contracted to provide specific medical care at negotiated prices for those students that have purchased the Boston College Accident and Injury Insurance.

"Preferred Providers" or "In-Network Providers" are the physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers who participate in the First Health Network. Directory of providers are available at the following websites:

First Health Network

Directory of Providers in Massachusetts

Supplemental Directory of Massachusetts Eating Disorder Specialists

"Preferred Allowance" means the amount a Preferred Provider will accept as payment in full for covered medical expenses.

"Network Area" means the geographic service area approved by the Massachusetts Division of Insurance.

"Out of Network Providers" have not agreed to any prearranced fee schedules. Charges in excess of the insurance payment are the responsibility of the Insured. Benefit levels for health care services rendered by Out of Network Providers shall be at least eighty percent of the benefit levels for services rendered by Preferred Providers.

Prescription Drug Program

The outpatient prescription drug benefit is available through MEDCO Health Solutions, Inc. (MEDCO) Network. The MEDCO Network includes national pharmacy chains such as CVS, Walgreens, and Brooks, as well as local pharmacies. Insured Students will be given an ID to show to the pharmacy as proof of coverage. If a prescription needs to be filled prior to receiving the ID card, reimbursement will be made upon submitting a completed claim form. MEDCO Pharmacies can be located by calling 1-800-711-0917 or by visiting http://www.medcohealth.com. Please refer to Exclusions and Limitations for medications not covered.
