Galbraith Summer Scholars Program

university fellowships committee

Sophomores and Juniors may apply.

The Galbraith Summer Scholars program at Harvard University honors the renowned economist, John Kenneth Galbraith, and is a multi-disciplinary summer program focused on issues of inequality and social policy. The Galbraith Scholars program seeks to introduce talented undergraduates—especially students of color and students of limited economic means—to doctoral and career opportunities in the various social science disciplines that address questions of inequality and social policy.

Those selected as Galbraith Scholars will receive full fellowships to attend a five-day summer program at Harvard University, including full travel, meals and lodging, and activity expenses to participate in specially designed seminars, panel discussions, workshops, off-site field trips, and collaborative activities on issues of inequality and social policy. Throughout the week, there are extensive opportunities for the Galbraith Scholars to interact with faculty and doctoral students and to learn about graduate programs, research experiences, and career opportunities.

The application for the Galbraith Scholarship includes:

  • An application form available from the Galbraith program;
  • An essay about the applicant's interests in issues of inequality and future aspirations to make a difference in social policy;
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member;
  • An official undergraduate transcript;
  • A one-page résumé.

The application deadline is the first week in May. Students interested in the Galbraith Summer Scholarships are urged to talk with the Boston College Galbraith Campus Coordinator. If you would like additional information about these awards and the application process before talking with the Campus Coordinator, consult the Galbraith Summer Scholarship web site.
