Content on Your Site: Adding Video

It is possible to add video to the MediaKron site by providing a URL link to a public site such as YouTube or Vimeo where the video has been uploaded.

*Please note: As a Boston College user, it is also possible to provide a link to the BC Flash streaming server or to the BC Real Media server. To learn how to upload mp4, m4v, or Flash video files to either of these servers, please contact MediaKron support at

Search on YouTube or Vimeo to find the correct URL for the video to include in MediaKron. [1] Navigate to the video (most commonly achieved by searching on YouTube) and [2] find the Share button directly underneath the video. To add a video to your MediaKron site, select Add Content on the horizontal bar next to the project title.

Select Video.

[1] Enter the Title of the video and [2] select the Topic under which the video will be organized. [3] Add any relevant tags in the Tags box using commas to separate multiple tags. [4] Select the appropriate video file type from the Video Type "dropdown menu" and input the URL. [5] To add a thumbnail image to your content item click Choose File, choose an image from your hard drive and then select Open (This file must be less than 10 MB and in a .png, .gif, .jpg, or .jpeg format).

*Please note: any fields with red asterisks are required.

In the space provided, write text about the video item. It is possible to use the editing toolbar to style this text as desired. Copy and paste functions are also applicable.

Options to add a video item to the timeline and maps on the MediaKron site appear on the tabs located at the top horizontal bar.

Using the Date tab, place a content item on the MediaKron timeline. To display the video on the timeline, check the box next to Enable on timeline. Enter a year, month, and day (if applicable) for your video.

To set an End date for the item, check the box next to Enable end date and fill in the year and month (if applicable). Use a four-digit number for years, and use negative numbers for dates BCE. Use a two-digit number for months, or write the entire name of the month. Use a two-digit number for days.

To pin your video file to a designated map, check the box
next to Place this item on the map. To make the map you
currently see appear first when viewing the item through the
front end, check the box next to Make this map the default

Click the area on the map to pin the video (keep in mind that you can zoom in or out on the map). A red pin should appear to verify that the item has been added to the map in your desired location.

*Please note: a content item can be placed on more than one map, if desired.

To publish the video after assigning details to it, select SAVE located to the right of the Title box near the top of the page.

The confirmation message shown here will verify that the file has been created and added to the MediaKron site.

friends video

It is possible to view the video on your MediaKron site under the topic to which it was assigned. If you have pinned your video to the timeline, to one or more maps, or added tags to it, you can also view your content from those locations. In this example, the test item was added to the Friends topic, tagged as 60s, added to one of the maps, and tagged as the year 1968.
