Content on Your Site: Adding Audio
It is possible to add audio to the MediaKron site by providing a URL to an mp3 or m4a file hosted on a publicly accessible web server or by providing a link to audio on the BC Real Media server. To learn how to upload an audio file to a publicly accessible web server please contact MediaKron
support at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once the audio file is
available online, follow the directions on this page.
Select Add Content.
Select Audio located in the Content area.
Begin by entering the Title of your audio content and selecting the Topic under which you would like it to be organized. Add any relevant tags in the Tags box using commas to separate multiple tags. Select the audio source from the Audio Type "dropdown menu" and input the audio URL (valid audio file types include: BC Real Media Server, BC Flash Media Server, mp3, or m4a). To add an image to your content item, select Choose File. Select an image from your hard drive and then select Open (this file must be less than 10 MB and in .png, .gif, .jpg, or .jpeg format).
*Please note: any fields with red asterisks are required.
Write text for your item in the space provided. Use the "editing toolbar" to style the text by making the words bold, italic, or underlined. It is possible to use the copy and paste functions, along with other options, to create this content.
Options to add an audio clip to the timeline and maps on the MediaKron site appear on the tabs located at the top horizontal bar.
Using the Date tab, place a content item on the MediaKron timeline. To display the media on the timeline, check the box next to Enable on timeline. Enter a year and month (if applicable) for your audio file.
To set an End date for the item check the box next to Enable end date and fill in the year and month (if applicable). Use a four-digit number for years and negative numbers for dates BCE. Use a two-digit number for months or write the entire name of the month.
Please see the Timeline documentation for assistance on how to set up the timeline on your MediaKron site.
To have a piece of media show up on a designated map,
click the tab for that map and check the box next to Place
this item on the map. To make the map you currently see
appear first when viewing the item through the front end,
check the box next to Make this map the default map.
Zoom in and out of your map and click the place where you would like your audio piece to be pinned. A red pin will appear to verify that the audio piece has been added to the map.
*Please note: a content item can be placed on more than one map.
For instructions on how to create a map in MediaKron, please see the Map documentation.
Select Save near the top and to the right of the Title box. This will publish the media item on the site.
The following confirmation message will verify that your file has been created and added to the MediaKron site.
It is now possible to view the audio file on the MediaKron site under the topic to which it was assigned. If the audio is pinned to the timeline, to one or more maps, or is tagged, it is possible to view the item from those locations. In this example, the audio file was added to the "Friends" topic, tagged as "60s," added to one of the maps, and tagged as the year 1965.
