If your computer running Windows XP should become infected with a virus, it is
possible for the virus to be backed up by the System Restore function.
You could then restore a virus-infected
file. Due to the proliferation of computer viruses and worms, it is recommended
that you disable system restore on your computer.
Requirements:
- Computer running Windows® XP
- You must be logged with an account that has Administrator privileges. If
you do not know how to log in as Administrator, contact your TC (if you are
faculty or staff), the computer manufacturer, or installer.
To disable the system restore function:
- Right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop,
and then click Properties.
- Click the System Restore tab.
- Select the Turn off System Restore or Turn off System Restore on all drives checkbox (refer to Figure1).

- Click Apply.
You will receive a message warning you that all previous restore points will be deleted (refer to Figure 3)

- Click OK.
