Important Notice: McAfee VirusScan software version 4.5.1 was made available to Boston College
on August 28, 2003. In this version, and in future versions, automatic update
is pre-configured to update your anti-virus protection every other day. We
recommend that you download
and install this new version to help keep your
anti-virus protection as current as possible. If you need assistance with this
process:

from on-campus), slschelp@bc.edu,
or visit the Student Learning and Support Center (
SLSC)
in O'Neill 250.
To get the most recent virus definitions and scan engine (DAT):
- Click on the Start button. From the pop-up menu select Programs.
Select Network Associates and then click on VirusScan
Console.
- The VirusScan Console window will open. Double-click AutoUpdate and
click Run Now (refer to Figure 1).

- If you do not have the most recent version of the VirusScan DAT, You will
see the AutoUpdate Status window displaying a gas pump while your files
are being updated (refer to Figure 2).

- When it is done, the VirusScan Status window will state Status:
Completed.
Click OK.
- Restart your computer.
Important: If AutoUpdate fails because
it is unable to connect to the specified site, click OK. You
need to update your version of McAfee VirusScan software. Repeat Step 2 to update your virus definitions.
