Update Virus Definitions
FOR WINDOWS USERS ON AND OFF CAMPUS

Important Notice: McAfee VirusScan software version 4.5.1 was made available to Boston College on August 28, 2003. In this version, and in future versions, automatic update is pre-configured to update your anti-virus protection every other day. We recommend that you download and install this new version to help keep your anti-virus protection as current as possible. If you need assistance with this process:

To get the most recent virus definitions and scan engine (DAT):

  1. Click on the Start button. From the pop-up menu select Programs. Select Network Associates and then click on VirusScan Console.
  2. The VirusScan Console window will open. Double-click AutoUpdate and click Run Now (refer to Figure 1).

  3. If you do not have the most recent version of the VirusScan DAT, You will see the AutoUpdate Status window displaying a gas pump while your files are being updated (refer to Figure 2).

  5. When it is done, the VirusScan Status window will state Status: Completed. Click OK.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Important: If AutoUpdate fails because it is unable to connect to the specified site, click OK. You need to update your version of McAfee VirusScan software. Repeat Step 2 to update your virus definitions.
