ABOUT SEAN

Sean is a member of the Class of 2008 and a major in Biology.   He is a busy young man, and often needs to travel outside the limits of public transportation.  In an effort to save funds and reduce his impact on the environment, he opts for the convenience of the Zipcar.

SEAN & ZIPCAR

Sean is an avid and excellent fencer.  As an underclassman, he used zipcar with older teammates to drive to Thursday night practice at the Boston Fencing Center in Waltham (a 5-mile drive).  They would refuel after a long practice at McDonald’s before returning to campus with the zipcar.

Now as captain of the Boston College Fencing Team, Sean decided to use the zipcar for the same purpose.  He has also used it to pick up friends from the airport, since the round trip cost of the car is cheaper than a taxi’s one-way fee.

Zipcar’s website is straight forward, making it easy to become a member or use the car occasionally.  It cost $50 to become a member, $9 an hour, or $68 for the day.  The company supplies a range of cars to suite every drivers’ needs and wants.

SEAN & BOSTON TRANSPORTATION

Sean generally uses the Zipcar for quick trips or to go places outside Boston that the T and bus don’t serve.  He likes how it saves a lot of time and how nice it is to park and forget about the car when his time is up.  As for environmental effects, Sean comments, “I think my use of the car is environmentally ok.  I mean I know it puts out CO2 but I only use the car about two to four times a month, and use public transportation the majority of the time.  As it is now I would not like a car on campus anyway since it is a liability and another responsibility.”

SEAN’S RECOMMENDATIONS

Sean says, “zipcar is very easy to use.  Just watch out for going over the time you paid for, because that’s a $50 minimum fine.  I would recommend it to a lot of people, especially since the car comes with a gas card, so gas is free if you need it!  I think that makes the difference because renting the car and paying for gas would make it too expense for me.  I think zipcar is a great idea and can be beneficial to environmental sustainability.”
