about joseph and his efforts

As a leader in Ecopledge, SustainBC, RealFoodBC and a Co-Director of Environmental Issues for UGBC, Joe DeCarle has been hard at work all year with creative programming to educate his peers about the environment.  During Harvest Fest last fall, he set up a blind taste test on the dustbowl so that students could discover the great tasteJoe with Jerry of "Ben and Jerry's" of Boston water and learn to give up bottled water, a habit that requires oil to make plastic bottles and burning of diesel fuel to transport the water to consumers.

Joe worked on the Green Career Panel procuring speakers and as a member of the 5-student board of organizers.  He hoped to bring Jerry Greenfield to speak to BC last fall about sustainable business practices at Ben
& Jerry’s ice cream.  He was literally stymied at every turn trying to raise funds for Mr.  Greenfield’s speaking fee.  Joe persisted in his quest for funding, bringing together various groups to raise over $10,000.  Other than the BC/Duke basketball game, the event was the best attended one of BCisGreen Week filling Devlin 008.   Judging from the reception Mr. Greenfield received from the audience, the event left a lasting impression on students.  He has used his skill creating events to bridge the gap between students and other organizations on and off campus as a champion fighting for environmental change on campus.
