Student Leadership Awards

Each year, the Student Programs Office (SPO) presents awards to outstanding undergraduate student leaders at Boston College. The awards recognize the contributions of students to the co-curricular life of the University, students' growth in leadership roles, and students' creative involvement in campus life. There is also an award that recognizes the outstanding contribution of an advisor to a student organization. This year's Student Leadership Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.

Several awards are related directly to leadership or programming. Students exhibit leadership in many different ways, from serving as a leader of a student organization to volunteering for special projects within the University. Programming includes not only major lectures and concerts, but also the coordination of other events such as poetry readings, service projects, and student/faculty discussions.

In order to ensure that all students and advisors are considered for awards, SPO asks that all student organizations, club advisors, deans, and other administrators nominate those who have made significant contributions to the Boston College community. Nominations can be made by students, faculty, administrators, or staff. Individuals or organizations may nominate more than one person. Accomplishments that are the result of paid positions (e.g., Resident Assistants, O'Connell House staff, or work-study positions) are eligible only for the St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Award for a Student Employee. Student employees may be eligible for other awards if they have demonstrated leadership in areas outside their paid positions. Award recipients are chosen by a committee composed of faculty and administrators.

The nomination period for the 2009-2010 academic year has ended. The nomination period for the 2010-2011 academic year will open in December 2010. If you have any questions, please contact Karl V. Bell at bellkh@bc.edu or 617-552-3480.
