Mission Statement:
The goal of the $uccessful Start program is to ensure that Boston College's students are financially-literate for their lifetime by offering a series of workshops and seminars, led by Boston College employees and expert guest speakers, related to all aspects of personal financial management.

Budgeting for Major Purchases and Savings
Tuesday, November 10

As students prepare to leave college, preparation is necessary for life’s “big purchases.” This workshop will focus on options available for major purchases. Basic overview of purchasing or leasing a car or other major purchases along with tips on how financing works. Insurance coverage will be discussed, including the different types of insurance, their main components, and how to determine which is appropriate for you.


How to File Your Own Taxes
Wednesday, November 11
4:30 p.m. – 6:20 p.m.

This workshop will introduce the basic forms of taxes and the necessary components a student will need to file. Topics include, dependency and independency, which form to file, basic tax exemptions, how to use your W2’s, protocol for extension, and use of paper vs electronic software.  Students will learn how to avoid the most common tax preparation mistakes.
