Student Loans

The Student Loan Department in the Office of Student Financial Services is responsible for processing and collecting Perkins, Nursing, and Institutional Loans. We are happy to serve the needs of all current and former Boston College borrowers.

July 1, 2009 Federal Stafford Interest Rates are Announced

Variable Stafford Loans which have not been consolidated will accrue at:

  • 1.88% during the Grace period
  • 2.48% during the Repayment period

All May 2009 graduates contemplating loan consolidation should apply to consolidation companies between July and November 2009 while still in the Grace period in order to maximize their benefit.


Loan Signing
Students who have been awarded the Perkins, Nursing, or Law loan for the first time or the Balfour, Peter Jay Sharp, or the Bank of America Loan this year, must complete entrance counseling and sign a promissory note. Visit http://www.ecsi.net/promx9/ for more information. The loan signing process will not be available until August 2009. Students will receive an email from the Office of Student Services when it is time to sign their documents.


ECSI (Educational Computer Systems, Inc.), an industry leader for loan servicing, will take over the billing of student loans on February 1, 2007.

New features available through ECSI:

  • Sign promissory notes electronically
  • View and update your account through web access
  • Make an E-payment
  • Sign up for electronic draft (ACH) payments

Massachusetts No Interest Loan Exit Counseling
Borrowers of Massachusetts No Interest Loans are required to complete an Exit Interview prior to Commencement. This may now be completed on-line. You will receive a letter in March from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Office of Student Financial Assistance outlining the steps for completion of the on-line Exit Interview. You will be asked to login to Educational Computer Systems, Inc ( ECSI) website to complete the exit interview. This is the loan servicing company for the Massachusetts Department of Education. You will be required to provide family information and personal references. Please be sure to have this information ready when you begin the on-line Exit Interview.
