Prospective Students

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The FAFSA is required in order to determine your eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial assistance. You should indicate Boston College, Title IV Institution code number 002128, Chestnut Hill, MA, in the College Release and Certification section. The FAFSA may be completed online at  http://www.fafsa.ed.gov, or a paper form can be obtained from your high school guidance counselor. The form cannot be filed before January 1, 2009.

Note: Although figures from a 2008 federal income tax return are preferred, due to early priority filing deadlines it may be necessary to provide estimates on the FAFSA form. Do not delay filing the FAFSA until tax forms are completed. The processed FAFSA takes approximately four to six weeks to reach Boston College.

CSS PROFILE Form

Any student who would like to be considered for Boston College grants and scholarships is also required to file the PROFILE Form published by the College Scholarship Service (CSS). The PROFILE Registration Form is available online at  http://profileonline.collegeboard.com. You should indicate Boston College, CSS code number 3083, as a recipient of your information on the PROFILE Registration Form. There is a fee required for processing this form. All parental information is required to be completed on the PROFILE Application Form regardless of dependency status.

Due to Boston Collge timetables, receipt of processed profile data cannot be verified until early December. Please check your application after that date for more information.

Students who choose not to file the PROFILE Form will be considered for federal funds only, and will not be considered for any Boston College grants and scholarships awarded by the Office of Student Services.

Note: Although figures from a 2008 federal income tax return are preferred, due to early priority filing deadlines it may be necessary to provide estimates on the PROFILE form. Do not delay filing the PROFILE until tax forms are completed. The processed PROFILE Application Form takes approximately four to six weeks to reach Boston College.

Federal Tax Returns

Students must submit signed copies of their own and their parents' 2008 federal income tax returns, including all schedules and W-2 forms. The parent tax return must be submitted regardless of tax dependency status. If 2008 tax forms are unavailable, copies of their own and their parents' 2006 federal tax returns should be submitted for review. Students submitting copies of 2006 federal income tax returns should submit a letter of explanation along with the tax returns if the parent or student 2008 income is significantly higher or lower.

Business/Farm Supplement and Business Federal Tax Returns

This form should be completed by families who are self-employed or own any interest in a business or farm (tax schedule C, E or F; sole proprietorship; partnership and/or corporation) and returned to the Office of Student Services with a signed copy of the most recent federal tax return filed for the business, including your K-1, all tax schedules and tax forms. The Business/Farm Supplement and copies of the business tax returns should be submitted for each business that a family owns. If a question on the Business/Farm Supplement does not apply, note"N/A" in the space provided; leaving blanks can delay the processing of an applicant's application. The Business/Farm Supplement can be obtained by completing the CSS PROFILE Registration Form.

Noncustodial Parent's Information

In cases where the parents are divorced, separated, or were never married, the Noncustodial Parent's Statement is required for any student who would like to be considered for Boston College grants and scholarships. Directions for completing the Noncustodial Parent's Statement online will be provided to applicants when they complete the CSS Profile. There is a charge to complete this form. Copies of the noncustodial parent's 2008 federal tax return, including all schedules and W-2 forms (2007 tax forms if 2008 are not yet available) should be submitted directly to Boston College Student Services.
