Hands On Disaster Response (HODR), a Massachusetts-based non-profit, is looking for volunteers to help with recovery efforts in response to recent record-breaking flooding in Iowa.  HODR's Project Cedar Rapids, providing volunteer assistance to communities affected by the flooding, will run until October 25, 2008.

We do not charge a participation fee to volunteer.  Just get yourself to the project, and in return we provide shelter, food, and a rewarding and unique volunteer experience.  There is no minimum or maximum stay - volunteer for one day or the entire duration of the deployment! No previous experience is necessary.  Our minimum age is 18 years old, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian.  To learn more about how you can help and to view updates and pictures from Project Cedar Rapids, visit www.HODR.org.

Women's Lunch Place logo
The Women's Lunch Place
provides a safe, comfortable daytime shelter, nutritious food, and services for women who are homeless or poor.  We treat women with dignity and respect, and foster a community committed to meeting each woman's needs. 

The Women's Lunch Place is looking for summer volunteers who can work in their kitchen, helping to prepare and serve meals; run the Resource Center and help guests search for jobs or apartments and/or serve as a Guest Assistance volunteer, helping staff to meet guests' emergency clothing and toiletry needs.  Volunteers must be able to make a 3-month commitment to the organization with a minimum of 8 hours of service each month.  To fill out an online volunteer application, please visit our website at:

The Women's Lunch Place also offers engaging, hands-on internship opportunities to students at graduate and undergraduate levels.  Interns become an integral part of the WLP community and bulid rewarding relationships with guests, staff, and other interns and volunteers.  We work with each individual student to develop a placement that meets his or her interests.  We also offer ongoing supervision to each student, and strive to support his/her personal and professional goals.

Camp Jabberwocky - Martha's Vineyard
Camp Jabberwocky is an overnight camp on Martha's Vineyard.  The camp is run for children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities and runs from the end of June to the end of August.  Jabberwocky serves about 30 campers each week, with a staff of about 25 volunteers.  There is no salary but room and board is included as well as travel to Martha's Vineyard.  Jabberwocky is divided into 2  4-week sessions. The first session if for primarily adult campers, and the second session enrolls a greater number of younger campers.  Counselors are encouraged to participate for one whole session, but 1-4 weeks is possible.  Experience working with special needs children and adults is not necessary.  Orientation is held prior to each session.  Please contact Rachel Winter at campjabberwocky@gmail.com if you have any questions or are interested in working at Jabberwocky.


BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life) is a nationally recognized non-profit focused on closing the achievement gap.  The Boston office is looking for summer staff for its 5 sites in the Boston area.  They are hiring Academic Teachers, Enrichment Teachers and Teacher's Assistants.  Academic teachers have to be certified but Enrichment Teachers and Teacher's Assistants are open to anyone interested in working with Boston youth.  Competitive summer salary offered.
