Spread the Bread 2008

Spread the Bread

Wednesday, November 19, 2008
11-2pm, on the Dustbowl
Bake or buy baked goods to donate

Each year Boston College joins with Spread the Bread, an award-winning organization in Wayland, MA., to support those in need during the Thanksgiving season. Started by two Boston College alumnae in 2001, Spread the Bread has as its mission the simple goal of making a small, practical difference in the lives of others: a hungry person, an unsung hero, an elderly person living alone.

Each fall we host and event and invite you – individuals, roommates, campus organizations, faculty and staff families – to plan a time to spend together BAKING BREAD. Any kind of bread is fine. Then bring your gift of bread – wrapped, decorated, and containing a note or poem – to our Spread the Bread event on the Dustbowl! The Harvest will benefit local pantries, shelters, and programs distributing aid in our communities.

We will have bread tasting, music, contests, face-painting, and other fun on the dustbowl. Please plan to bake and share your abundance with us!

Sometime in your life, hope that you might see one starved man, the look on his face when the bread finally arrives. Hope that you might have baked it or bought or even kneaded it yourself. For that look on his face, for your meeting his eyes across a piece of bread, you might be willing to lose a lot, or suffer a lot, or die a little, even.
