(Nicaragua team 2008 visiting the women and families of Miraflor)
The Nicaragua Faculty/Staff Immersion Trip was established in the summer of 2003 under the leadership of Dan Leahy, presently Assistant Director in the Office of Spirituality and Service, Alumni Association. Today the program is co-sponsored by the Volunteer & Service Learning Center and the Intersections Program.
The goal of the program is four-fold:
* to provide an international education experience for faculty and staff that explores global justice issues in the context of a developing nation
* to further participants' understanding of how faith and justice are linked in the Jesuit mission in higher education
* to encourage participants to find ways of integrating these themes into their own work at Boston College
* to foster mutually beneficial professional relationships with colleagues at the University of Central America (UCA), the Jesuit university in Managua, Nicaragua
If you are a faculty member of administrator at Boston College and would like to be considered for a team, please contact the Intersections Office at x2-6140.
Please take a moment to read comments from past participants, and view team rosters from past years.
The trip is coordinated through the Center for Global Education.
