MAGIS (pronounced "màh-gis") is a Latin word meaning “more". It is a term that was used by Ignatius of Loyola and is a word common to the Jesuit spiritual tradition.
Searching for MORE means that we are not content with what already exists. Coming back from an intensive service or immersion experience, where poverty and stories of human suffering are often encountered, raises real questions about the world, about our beliefs, and about our lives. The experience is very often both physically and emotionally exhausting. Transitioning back to “normal” life at BC can prove to be a significant challenge.
MAGIS is in its second year at Boston College, and a few changes have been made since last year. It is a five-week dinner seires aimed to enourage exploration and conversation around the questions that we confront when we come back from service and immersion experiences. The goal is to assist those who may be asking the question: What more?
What can I do to make sure my experience has a lasting impact?
How can my lifestyle begin to match what I claim to believe?
How can I provide ongoing support for the people I met on my trip?
The trip is over: What now? What MORE?
MAGIS will be held on Sunday evenings (7:00-8:30pm) and will run in the
Ignacio Lounge for five weeks:
March 15, 22, 29 and April 5, 19
A light dinner will be provided. Registration is free and limited to the first 40 students. If you have participated on an International Service or Immersion Trip since May of 2008, you can be a part of the Magis program.
