Where do I Check In?
STM Summer Institute students may check-in at Voute Hall on Sunday, June 21st for Session 1 and Sunday, July 5th for Session 2/Conference Week between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm. If you are checking in outside of these days and times, you should check-in at the Summer Welcome Center located at 110 St. More Hall, across from St. Ignatius Church.
Gabelli & Voute Halls are located within a 5 minute walking distance from the Welcome Center. We will not be able to provide bellhops or luggage carts.
The Welcome Center is open from 9:00 am to 1:00 am daily. Please do not arrive outside these hours, as there will be no staff available to check you in. If you have an international flight that arrives after 1:00 am please email us at summer.housing@bc.edu to make specific arrangements. After May 20th, you may also call the Welcome Center directly at 617-655-5555. Although the center is open until 1:00 am, please call between 9:00 pm and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, if you have questions regarding your application.
When do I Check Out?
Session Housing check-out time is Saturday at 12:00 pm. Conference Week I attendees must check out by 12:00 pm on Sunday, July 12, 2009. Check-out materials will be available in the building lobby. Those wishing to check out early must do so at the Summer Welcome Center located at the 110 St. Thomas More Hall.
Will I have a phone number? Long Distance? Television?
Each apartment is wired with four phone lines, four AGORA campus network jacks, and five cable TV outlets. Boston College does not supply telephones, answering machines or televisions, but we encourage STM Summer Institute students to bring their own. We will be able to tell you your specific phone number upon your arrival to campus. (Simply ask at check-in).The summer phone system does not include long distance service, but will allow 1-800 numbers. We encourage students to buy prepaid calling cards for long distance service.
Can I request a specific roommate?
Yes. If you have a specific person that you want to share your room or apartment with, please indicate that on the application form. You may only request a person who is taking the same sessions as you are. We are unable to "hold" a space for 2 weeks until a friend arrives. Conversely, should your roommate/apartmentmate leave earlier than you, we will need to fill the bed space with a new student.
Can I come early/stay later than my assigned session?
Unfortunately, we are not able to house STM Summer Institute students before or after the session dates listed above. We understand that Boston is a popular vacation destination, but unfortunately we cannot provide accommodations for any reason other than classes. PLEASE PLAN YOUR TRAVEL ACCORDINGLY. We are unable to accommodate people who arrive days before their designated check-in date. If you must arrive to the city before your session, you may apply to stay in the Summer Guest House. To register for the Guest House go to www.bc.edu/guesthouse. Due to the limited time available to prepare the halls, no one will be allowed to move into their assignment until the official move-in day.
What is Family Occupancy and how do I qualify?
Family Occupancy is designed for STM Summer Institute students with children. STM Summer Institute students with children under the age of 12 can qualify for a family rate to rent an entire apartment. Please contact the office directly at summer.housing@bc.edu if you are considering bringing your family. We will need to talk about specific rate and location details well in advance of your arrival.
Students bringing a spouse should register for two double accommodations and indicate you are bringing a spouse in the comment section of the application.
