Off-Campus Resources & Information

Boston College's Off-Campus Housing Office is located in Maloney Hall (Suite 415) and assists BC students, faculty, staff, and alumni looking for local housing.

The office acts in an advisory capacity only and does not make reservations, appointments, or rental commitments or participate in any negotiations with landlords. Individuals must, on their own, meet with the landlords, inspect the apartments, and make the lease arrangements. Because of varying costs and the quality of accommodations, personal visits to available rooms/apartments should be made before making final arrangements.

The best time to look for Fall semester housing is June through the end of August. However, many landlords and agents are prepared to show apartments as early as one year in advance for those undergraduates anticipating living off campus in their Junior year. Generally, these apartments turn over year after year. For Spring semester housing, the best time to look is late November through the beginning of second semester.

To assist you in finding off-campus housing, we've set up three areas of resources on what you need to know:

Planning on living off-campus next year?

The Office of Residential Life is conducting several off-campus information sessions to educate students about the process of moving off-campus junior year.

During these sessions we will address ways to avoid the high pressure sales tactics used by some realtors and remind students that it is not necessary to sign a lease one year in advance, given the ample supply of apartments available.

Information Sessions:

Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 7:30PM           Vanderslice Hall, 6th Floor Lounge
Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:30PM Walsh Hall, 8th Floor Lounge
Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 7:30PM Roncalli Hall, 1st Floor Lounge
Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 5:00PM           Edmonds Hall, 1st Floor Lounge

In addition, we will remind students of the following:

  • Fall 2015 classes being Monday, August 31.
  • The City of Boston has a zoning ordinance that prohibits more than four undergraduate students from living together in a house or apartment.  We strongly urge our students to follow this ordinance, as failure to do so can create unsafe living conditions and be the source of large social gatherings, which invariably draw the attention of the Boston Police
  • Those who were guaranteed on-campus housing for four years but who choose to live off-campus during their junior year that  they must log onto AGORA to fill out a Leave of Absence Form so that they can return to on-campus housing during their senior year.
