Boston College does not insure student property. Further BC cannot assume liability for student possessions. To that end, students should ensure their property on campus is covered using a plan specifically designed for Student Personal Property theft or damage. Boston College has located one such company, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., that is listed on the Res Life website regarding Student Personal Property insurance. Accidental damage and water damage is included so if flooding occurs as a result of sprinklers going off, pipes freezing, or a water bottle spills on a laptop, all damage is covered.

Below are plan highlights of the coverage which includes a link to Personal Property on Gallagher website where students can enroll and obtain additional information:

You can also view the brochure at this link.

To protect you and your property, Gallagher offers Personal Property Protection to students, faculty & staff.

  • Covers loss due to accidental damage, theft, fire, water or vandalism
  • Covers computers, cell phones, books, clothes, and more
  • Worldwide protection, including when studying abroad or on vacation
  • Replacement Cost Coverage
  • Full 12 month policy period
  • Free Identity Theft Coverage
  • Low rates and $25 deductible option when enrolled online at

Parking & Transportation Notice

Please be reminded that only cars with valid parking permits are allowed to be parked on campus. Cars that do not have a valid permit will be ticketed and/or towed. Shuttle Sevice for Fall Opening can be found here.

For policies and questions about parking, please visit BC Transportation & Parking.

Financial Obligations

Any student with an outstanding financial obligation as of August 22 will have their meal plan suspended. If you have an outstanding balance on your student account, please contact the Office of Student Services at (617) 552-3300.

Living Off-Campus

If you are a housing eligible student that participated in the returning student room selection process and are not planning to return to on-campus housing for the 2016-2017 academic year, please fill out a housing leave of absence form on the Agora Portal.

Safety and Security

Safety and security of utmost concern and everyone's responsibility at Boston College. We want to ensure that your room/suite/apartment is as safe as possible.

Please note: Candles, incense, and other sources of open flame; torchière style-halogen lights and lamps; two-prong extension cords; and personal mattresses and foam mattress pads will be confiscated and discarded without compensation to the owner.

Regular health & safety inspections will be conducted in all residential areas to ensure your assignment is safe and secure. To learn more, check our Safety & Security Policies.

Moving and Storage Units

No personal moving companies, door-to-door, or storage units are allowed onto campus. A limited number of carts are available at some residence halls, however it is strongly recommended that you bring your own dolly/cart to facilitate your move.

Boston College has no on-campus storage facility for student belongings, but has contracted Piece by Piece Storage to handle all summer, semester, and year-long storage for students.

Piece by Piece Storage is the only storage company authorized by Boston College to be on campus. Therefore, any business done with other companies cannot be guaranteed, nor will other companies be permitted to come onto campus during move-in/move-out.
