Outer Banks, North Carolina: Kayak Expedition
Join us for a kayaking trip along the crystal coast in the Outer Banks. Paddling from the mainland to Cape Lookout we will journey through complex passages of shifting sand, explore undeveloped islands, and camp on windswept beaches. The days will revolve around the rhythm of the tides, the impact of the wind, and the movement of the waves. With miles of empty beaches, dozens of species of birds and wild horses moving through the dunes, this is a trip that will stay with you forever.
North Carolina: Stand Up Paddleboarding
Ever wanted to explore sandbars, estuaries, and marshlands? Want to see wildlife in a whole new way? Excited about trying something new? This trip is for you! This trip is a great way to explore the world during spring break. We will camp at a campground and then every day explore a new and interesting part of the unique landscape. With marshland teaming with birds, estuaries with full of fish and coastlines with white sand beaches and crashing surf, this trip has a huge range of things to see and a stand up paddleboard is a great way to do it!
Grand Canyon: Backpacking
A crown jewel of the National Parks System, the Grand Canyon more than lives up to its name. We will fly from Boston, drive out to the canyon, and--after a brief introduction to camping and hiking--load all our supplies into backpacks and descend into the bottom of the canyon. The decent is breathtaking as we drop thousands of feet to the canyon floor, walking through some of the most beautiful views and interesting geology in North America. The rest of the trip will be spent sleeping out on the backcountry of the canyon and exploring this unique landscape before we climb back up to the real world and return to campus.
Utah: Rock Climbing
OA is sending a group of students to climb the marvelous cliffs around St. George, Utah. This trip is not one to miss! Flying from Boston, you will arrive in the desert southwest, set up our basecamp and spend the week learning to rock climb, working together to scale impossible cliffs and finding, then surpassing your limits. Run through a partnership between OA and a highly experienced climbing guide service this trip is open to people of all skill levels. If you have never climbed before and want to try, this is an excellent opportunity. Experienced climbers will also enjoy a chance to push themselves.
