Become A Trainer


Are you interested in becoming a personal trainer? All new trainers (with less than one year of regular training experience, certifications, and acceptable references), must apply for a spot in the Boston College Campus Recreation Personal Trainer Prep Course. Space is limited. If accepted, trainees must successfully complete all requirements before becoming a staff member for Boston College Campus Recreation. Employment is not guaranteed.


Class Quick Facts

  • This course will be offered in fall 2015
  • This course will not be be offered in spring 2015, or spring 2016
  • This course is only open to Boston College undergraduate and graduate students who are members of the Flynn Recreation Complex.
  • This course is MANDATORY for all new personal trainers (exceptions mentioned above) in order to apply for a trainer position with Boston College Campus Recreation.


How to Apply

  1. Attend an information session (dates and times TBD). This is the best way to learn about requirements to become a personal trainer. There is no need to reserve a spot.
  2. Interview and audition for a spot 
  3. Following the interview and audition, a decision email will be sent to each applicant. Registration information will be provided if accepted. The course will begin in September.


Program Cost: $225 (includes course and study materials, but does not include ACE certification cost)

Certifications Needed

We encourage all trainers to complete the ACE Personal Training Certification, but we also accept ACSM-PT, NSCA-PT, and NASM-PT. Workshops will be offered to help with specialty trainings, but see class titles for additional certifications that are accepted and encouraged based on our current small group class offerings and other personal interests. Refer to the certification websites for prerequisites, some of which may require the completion of an undergraduate degree.

Please keep in mind that we can’t be “specialists” in everything. Think of the certifications below as a deeper understanding. NCAA-Accreditation is a good thing to look for when exploring certifications.
