Abby is a senior at BC who studies Environmental Geosciences. She is originally from Boca Raton, Florida, where she learned to swim at the age of three and swam competitively for 6 years.
She has taught swim lessons to adults and children ranging from ages 1-15 for the past three summers and has been American Red Cross Certified in Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instruction, First Aid, and CPR/AED for 3 years; in addition Abby is a PADI Certified Open Water SCUBA Diver.
Abby has worked at the Plex for the past three years, and has a wide range of experience working with children of all levels and ages that stems from both her teaching experience and her experience working as a nanny.
Availability: Wednesdays 2 - 5 pm, Fridays 12 - 2 pm and 5 - 8 pm
Alison is a sophomore at Boston College, hoping to study Linguistics and Islamic Civilizations and Societies with a focus on Arabic, and minoring in Hispanic Studies. She lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and has been swimming for her whole life. She has been teaching swimming lessons for four years at summer camps and beach clubs in New Hampshire.
Alison is a certified Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard, and is certified to teach all ages and swim abilities. Alison loves to teach swimming because she believes it is such an empowering life skill. She feels fortunate to be able to teach swimming and make an impact on others’ lives.

Carolyn is a junior in the Lynch School of Education. She is an American Red Cross certified lifeguard and water safety instructor. Carolyn has been teaching swim lessons for three years now. This experience has helped her understand that not everyone learns in the same way.
She has worked with kids as young as three and as old as 12. As a future teacher, Carolyn enjoys seeing a child's face light up whenever he or she accomplishes something new. She strives to help every child feel safe in and around the water, as well as to show them how much fun swimming can be.

Estelle is a junior biology major at BC. She is an American Red Cross certified swim instructor. She swam competitively on a club team based out of Harvard for over 10 years, and she also swam varsity for her high school team.
She began teaching over 3 years ago at MIT, helping both children and adults develop their comfort level and swimming skills in the water. She can't wait to continue teaching for her third year at BC, and is excited to pass on her knowledge and excitement about swimming to both children and adults.

Brenna is a junior studying sociology and education at Boston College. She grew up in upstate New York where she took her first swim lesson in a lake in the Adirondacks. Brenna continued to swim competitively and started teaching swim lessons at her local YMCA during high school. She has continued to teach swim lessons through various different programs to children of all ages and adults as well.
During the summer, Brenna works at a summer camp as a camp counselor, lifeguard, and swim instructor. Brenna has worked at the Plex for the last 2 years and is excited to continue teaching this year. She believes that each lesson should be an opportunity for the student to learn, grow, and have fun in a safe and friendly environment!

Jillian is a junior at Boston College studying Education and History with a minor in Special Education. She is originally from Rochester, NY where she has worked as a camp counselor, lifeguard and swim teacher and has experience with all ages and levels of swimmers. As an education major, she has been able to refine her skills working with students with special needs as well as treating all students with respect and integrity.
From all of her experience working with children in and out of the pool, she has a variety of techniques to ensure children are safe in and around the pool. Being certified as a lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor has helped Jillian realize her passion for teaching as she can see first-hand her students grasp concepts. Jillian can’t wait to continue her passion for teaching in the pool.

Joni is a pre-med biology major in the College of Arts and Sciences. This is her second year as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Flynn Recreation Complex. Prior to Boston College, she swam competitively and was captain of her high school Varsity swim team and club team.
She has taught large groups for 3 years at a school program as well as private lessons over the summer. Joni has gained experience teaching children of all levels, from kids who simply needed to get accustomed to the water to kids who were refining their strokes and building endurance. She loves watching children progress in their skills and enjoys seeing them find their love for the water.

Katie is a senior at BC studying marketing and applied psychology/human development, having taught swim lessons of all types, from children 12 months to adults, since she was 17. She’s been swimming competitively for over 10 years, and as captain of both her high school and local club swim teams she has extensive coaching experience.
Working with children has always been one of her passions and she is excited to continue during her last year at Boston College.

Christine is a sophomore at BC in the School of Arts and Sciences. She is a certified red-cross lifeguard and swim instructor at the Flynn Recreation complex. Prior to Boston College, she had swum competitively for 10 years. She lifeguards on the beach during the summer and she volunteers with her local Catholic Youth Organization Swim Team, St. Andrew’s. She has experience teaching children between ages 4-10 and is excited to improve the abilities and also motivate those she teaches.

Lauren is an American Red Cross certified lifeguard and swim instructor with a passion for swimming and teaching. Growing up, she spent her summers swimming on a swim team from age six through high school. She has taught lessons for the past four years to kids mostly ages 3-14, but has experience working with kids and adults of all ages and levels. Lauren loves connecting with kids to help them develop their swimming skills and confidence, and understands the importance of providing a comfortable and exciting environment in the pool. During her lessons she integrates a variety of skills and techniques while emphasizing the importance of safety and fun!

Estephen is a junior enrolled in the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. He is also a member of the BC Men’s Swimming and Diving team, primarily swimming butterfly. He has swum competitively for 10 years, starting with club swimming in his hometown of Long Beach, CA.
He has been a swim instructor for four years, and has worked with all ages and levels, from infants to club-ready swimmers. Estephen loves working with children and will use his expertise in the water to better develop your child’s swimming skills.

Mike is a second year MA student in the philosophy department. He is a native Californian who has been swimming for over 15 years and played water polo for 10. He has been a lifeguard for 8 years. He played a year of D1 water polo at Fordham and has since played club in San Francisco, Buenos Aires, and San Antonio. He also enjoys master’s swimming. Last spring he taught intro water polo to children ages 6-12

Joe is a senior in the Carroll School of Management. He is a member of the Men's varsity swim team and has been competitively swimming for over 10 years. Over the summers, he provides swim lessons to all ages, ranging from toddlers to triathletes. Joe is CPR and First Aid Certified as well as WSI Certified which is the water safety instructor certification.
He is a three year letter winner on the swim team and currently holds the 200 butterfly school record at BC. In the future, Joe will pursue his finance and information systems degree as a Management Consultant. He hopes to go back to school and get his MBA. He loves swimming and especially enjoys teaching others and developing their swimming capabilities.

Gillian is a senior communications major. She is a member of Boston College’s Varsity Swim Team and the Club Water Polo Team. She has been a Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor and Life Guard for 5 years. Gillian teaches swim lessons to children aged 2-15 at the Meadow Brook Golf Club in Reading, MA and is the head swim coach for the Marlins Swim Team.
In addition, she has been an instructor at the Flynn Complex for 3 years teaching both private and group lessons from parent-tot to adults. Gillian has also done work with the EMARC Learn to Swim program. She enjoys seeing her students pride in the progress they are able to make in the pool.

Sarah is a sophomore communications major at BC. She is an American Red Cross-certified lifeguard and swim instructor. For five years she swam competitively with a USA club team in California, and she also swam for, and was captain of, her high school swim team.
Two years ago, she began teaching Swim America lessons, working with children ages 3-12 in order to accustom them to the water, develop their swimming skills, and train them for competitive swim teams. This past summer, Sarah worked at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center as both a swim instructor and a camp counselor, teaching children how to swim as well as safety in and out of the water. She is excited to continue her time teaching at BC, and to share her passion for swimming with the amazing community surrounding Boston College.
