Elizabeth C. 

Availability: Sundays 12 - 4 PM

Elizabeth is a senior at Dedham High School who has American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instruction certifications. Elizabeth joined her first swim team at the Plex seven years ago and has been a competitive swimmer ever since. She was inspired by the instructors she had at BC as a child who motivated her to come back to lifeguard and teach swim lessons as soon as she turned 16. Elizabeth works well with swimmers ages 3-17 and enjoys spreading the same joy that BC swim lessons gave her. Elizabeth also teaches at a local debate camp, is the captain of her school’s swim and debate teams, and competes nationally in mock trial.

Julie D.

Availability: Mondays 3 - 6 pm; Tuesdays 3 - 5 pm; Wednesdays 3 - 6 pm; Thursdays 3 - 5 pm; Fridays 3 - 6 pm; Sundays 12 - 4 pm

Julie is a rising senior studying Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience. She swims for BC's varsity team and will be a captain for the 2018-2019 season, specializing in freestyle and butterfly. Julie has taught swim lessons and coached ages 2-17 years old for 3 consecutive years. Additionally, she volunteers every Saturday morning teaching swim lessons to children with learning disabilities. She can offer a variety of lessons including water safety, stroke technique, race strategies, and endurance training. Julie is passionate about swimming and loves sharing her enthusiasm while teaching children to improve in something she loves.

Teddy C.

Availability: Mondays 3 - 6 pm; Tuesdays 3 - 5 pm; Wednesdays 3 - 6 pm; Thursdays 3 - 5 pm; Fridays 3 - 6 pm; Sundays 12 - 4 pm

Teddy just graduated from the Deck House School in Edgecomb, Maine. He is taking a gap year before he enters Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine in 2019. This fall, Teddy will pursue a certificate in Building Construction Technologies at Minuteman Technical Institute. From 2007-2014, Teddy swam for the Brookline Dolphins Swim Team. When he was eight, he won bronze in the West Suburban League championships in the 25 fly. At 13, he won gold in the 50 back. With his twin brother, he set a camp record in the 4x100 relay at Camp Netop in Casco, Maine in 2014. He has lifeguarded since 2015 working at BC and the Boothbay, Maine YMCA. In 2017, he earned his WSI at BU and is looking forward to teaching swimming this summer.

Kevin M.

Availability:Wednesdays 4 - 6 pm; Sundays 1 - 3 pm

Kevin is a sophomore at Boston College studying Mathematics and Economics. He hopes to one day enjoy a field that combines the two subjects. He has been swimming his entire life, from swimming in his backyard pool, to swimming at the local beach on Long Island, to swimming and diving for his high school swim team. He has been lifeguarding at a day camp on Long Island for the past 2 years, and began teaching swim lessons to campers age 4-12 this past year. He particularly developed his skills in working with young swimmers at this camp. While most of his teaching experience comes from group lessons, he also has experience teaching individual lessons for swimming and diving.

Zach L.

Availability: Mondays 5 - 6 pm; Wednesdays 5 - 6 pm; Fridays 5 - 6 pm; Sundays 12 - 4 pm

Zach is a 7-time State Champion swimmer studying Mathematics at BC. He loves to coach and teach. He also leads ~100 future navy officers in the BU–MIT Navy ROTC Battalion as its Chief Operations Officer. Zach swam on the Varsity Swim Team at BC and in high school. He is an experienced, safety-minded swim instructor and has been a Special Olympics Coach for two years. During high school in MN, he earned a Scholastic All-American (4.0 GPA) from USA Swimming and held many Minnesota State records.

Shanel T.

Availability: Mondays 3 - 6 pm; Tuesdays 3 - 5 pm; Wednesdays 3 - 6 pm; Thursdays 3 - 5 pm; Fridays 3 - 6 pm; Sundays 12 - 4 pm

Shanel is a rising sophomore from Massachusetts in the College of Arts and Sciences studying psychology with a minor in management & leadership and a minor in international studies. She has been in the pool since she was six months old. She swam competitively for the YMCA of the North shore for 10 years, starting at age five, and was also a part of USA swimming. She has competed in district, regional, and state meets throughout her career. Shanel also swam for her high school team for four years. She took on diving as well for the last three years of high school. Her favorite strokes are freestyle and backstroke. She has been a lifeguard for four years through the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and has worked as a lifeguard at the Plex since starting her freshman year. Shanel is excited to have the opportunity to get in the pool and share her love of swimming with others, as swimming has played a big role in her life.

Rebecca R.

Availability: Mondays 3 - 6 pm; Wednesdays 3 - 6 pm

Rebecca is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Sociology on a Pre-Medical track. She started swimming at the age of nine on a local swim team in her hometown and continued with them until she entered high school. She received her lifeguard/CPR certification coming out of high school and has guarded at the Plex since the start of her freshman year. This is her first year teaching at the Plex, but she loves working with younger kids as she has three younger siblings of her own, the youngest of which is her age when she started swimming. In the other free time she has at BC, she's dancing for the Latin dance team, Vida de Intensa Pasiòn. She enjoys teaching because she loved learning how to swim herself at such a young age.
