Campus Recreation offers many opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student employment.

If you would like to apply for any positions, fill out the PDF application, save it to your computer and hand deliver it to the Member Services Office in the Flynn Recreation Complex. Some jobs may not have a PDF application. Instead, email the listed documents or information to the person listed in the job description.

Available Positions Summer & Fall 2015

Camp Supervisor

Job Description

Camp Supervisors work for 6 weeks over the summer with youth age 7-12.  In addition to leading the campers in activities, Camp Supervisors will also oversee the Camp Counselor team. Boston College Recreational Day Camp runs Monday through Friday between 8:00am-5:30pm.  Camp Supervisors work between 4 to 8 hours a day and will average between 25-29 hours per week. Camp Supervisors will lead the campers in active games, board games, arts & crafts, swimming, and themed activities.  Camp Supervisors will also evaluate the Camp Counselors and directly report to the Camp Directors any issues the camp is facing.

Desired Qualifications

We are seeking energetic and responsible students who enjoy being around kids, will make the games we play fun, and still have energy to spare at the end of each day.  Applicants must also have strong leadership skills, and be able to evaluate and supervise peers.  Camp Supervisors should develop a strong understanding of the Boston College Recreation Day Camp’s purpose and goals and make sure both campers and Camp Counselors are demonstrating these objectives.  We get in the pool daily, so we prefer strong swimmers.  A creative background is a huge bonus, we have tons of games and ideas, but love staff that can add to the programming we already have. 

Requirements

  • Certified in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid (in special circumstances, certification may be provided after hire)
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Previous camp counselor experience or history working with elementary aged children preferred.
  • Committed to work up to 30 hours per week for 6 weeks. June 29 – August 7, 2015
  • Must attend mandatory training & orientation June 22-26
  • Must be able to work in the office roughly 12 hours per week for the month of June

Camp Counselor

Job Description

Camp Nurse

Job Description

The Camp Nurse performs all the same duties as a Camp Counselor, but in addition the nurse responds to any medical needs the camp may have.  These duties include meeting with parents on the first day of each camp to discuss any medications a camper might need, administering regular medication to campers, documenting all administered medications, documenting all injuries, and sitting with a camper who may be overheated or sick.  The camp nurse is the first responder to all health and injury related incidents which occur at camp.

Desired Qualifications

First and foremost the Camp Nurse must have a good understanding of how to treat injuries and respond to health related incidents.  Many past Camp Nurses have been nursing students at Boston College.

GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

Seeking BC Professional Staff and Graduate Students: Pilates, Spin, and Yoga (200-hour RYT) 

Job Description

Group Fitness Instructors lead safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes in a variety of disciplines. The class format individual instructors teach varies based upon ability, training, and certification. All instructors strive to lead the best classes by maintaining a positive and helpful attitude, preparing music and workouts in advance, maintaining room cleanliness and equipment organization, recording class attendance, enforcing policies, and responding to emergencies.  

All staff in this role must be adult CPR/AED certified upon hire, and able to lift 45 lbs. Additionally, certification and training is required. New instructors with less than two years of certified teaching experience are required to take our preparatory course to be eligible for an instructor position.

Requirements

  • Valid adult CPR/AED certification upon hire (okay to complete after hire, but needed before first shift)
  • Valid group fitness certification upon hire:
    • Yoga instructors need 200-hour RYT training
    • Spin instructors need indoor cycling certification (Mad Dogg or Schwinn preferred)
    • Pilates instructors need a minimum Pilates Mat Level 1 certification (Stott, Balanced Body, or Power Pilates preferred)
  • Valid additional certifications if necessary (exact certficiation to be specified if hired)

Lifeguard

Job Description

  • Prevent aquatic-related emergencies as a member of a risk management team
  • Provide great customer service
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks
  • Assist with special needs of members and guests in compliance with ADA regulations
  • Assist as a member of an event management team

Requirements

  • Current CPR/AED, First Aid & Lifeguard certifications
  • Pass staff in-service skill test

The Fitness Maintenance Attendant cleans and organizes the Fitness wing and studios, and occassionally assists with moving equipment and facility set-up and breakdown.

QUONSET HUT MONITOR - NEWTON CAMPUS

Job Description

  • Responsible for safety and security of the facility
  • Opening and Closing of the facility
  • First Responder to all injuries & incidents
  • Responsible for equipment check-out and sales of guest passes
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the fitness area including re-racking weights and cleaning off equipment
  • Enforcing the policies of Campus Recreation and of the Quonset Hut facility
