Campus Recreation offers many opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student employment.

If you would like to apply for any positions, fill out the PDF application, save it to your computer and hand deliver it to the Member Services Office in the Flynn Recreation Complex. Some jobs may not have a PDF application. Instead, email the listed documents or information to the person listed in the job description.

GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

Seeking BC Professional Staff and Graduate Students: Pilates, Spin, and Yoga (200-hour RYT) 

Job Description
Group Fitness Instructors lead safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes in a variety of disciplines. The class format individual instructors teach varies based upon ability, training, and certification. All instructors strive to lead the best classes by maintaining a positive and helpful attitude, preparing music and workouts in advance, maintaining room cleanliness and equipment organization, recording class attendance, enforcing policies, and responding to emergencies.  

All staff in this role must be adult CPR/AED certified upon hire, and able to lift 45 lbs. Additionally, certification and training is required. New instructors with less than two years of certified teaching experience are required to take our preparatory course to be eligible for an instructor position.

Requirements

  • Valid adult CPR/AED certification upon hire (okay to complete after hire, but needed before first shift)
  • Valid group fitness certification upon hire:
    • Yoga instructors need 200-hour RYT training
    • Spin instructors need indoor cycling certification (Mad Dogg or Schwinn preferred)
    • Pilates instructors need a minimum Pilates Mat Level 1 certification (Stott, Balanced Body, or Power Pilates preferred)
  • Valid additional certifications if necessary (exact certification to be specified if hired)
  • Participation in GF Prep Course or 2+ years of certified teaching experience (some exceptions may be made for professional staff and graduate students)
  • Working knowledge of current fitness trends, training techniques, and safety practices
  • Ability to lift at least 45 lbs.
  • Availability to work flexible hours

Responsibilities

PERSONAL TRAINER

Seeking BC Graduate Students

Job Description
Personal Trainers design safe and effective exercise programs catered to clients or specialty small group training programs, and administer assessments. All trainers work to develop knowledge of current fitness trends and training techniques. All staff in this role must be adult CPR/AED certified upon hire, and able to lift 45 lbs.

Additionally, certification and training is required. New trainers with less than two years of certified training experience are required to take our preparatory course to be eligible for a trainer position.

MAINTENANCE ATTENDANT (FITNESS)

Job Description
The Fitness Maintenance Attendant cleans and organizes the Fitness wing and studios, and occasionally assists with moving equipment and facility set-up and breakdown.

  • Available Fall shifts: Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm - 3:30pm (not hiring for summer)

Requirements

  • Physically strong and able to perform lifting/moving

  • Works well independently
  • Able to work a minimum of 5 hours per week

Facility Supervisor

Job Description

  • Responsible for Safety and Security of the Facility

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (PRIVATE/SEMI-PRIVATE & SWIM LESSONS)

LIFEGUARD

Job Description

  • Prevent aquatic-related emergencies as a member of a risk management team
  • Provide great customer service
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks

Club Sport Event Supervisor

Position Summary
Club Sport Event Supervisors are responsible for serving as the on-site administrator at Club Sports competitions, practices, and special events. Their role is to oversee all aspects of the event from start to finish which includes facility management and the supervision of participants, officials, and spectators to ensure that everything runs smoothly and safely. Event Supervisors are required to work nights and weekends, but hours will fluctuate throughout the year. 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Inspect facilities and equipment for safety and assist with set up and break down
  • Communicate pertinent information with participants, coaches, officials, and athletic trainers
  • Monitor and maintain control over all spectators
  • Enforce all departmental and university policies
  • Be prepared to act as a first responder and initiate emergency procedures as needed
  • Serve as a liaison between Club Sports and other on-campus departments (Ex: BCPD, Athletics, Parking, Facilities, Catering, etc.)
  • Complete departmental forms including: incident/injury, ejection, and game-day reports
  • Represent the program in a professional manner
  • §  Perform random risk management checks at practices
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director for Club Sports

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated level of interest in club sports and campus recreation
  • Enrolled as a full-time Boston College undergraduate or graduate student
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to recognize and respond to conflicts while maintaining a calm working environment
  • Able to work independently and without direct supervision
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role preferred
  • Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross or willing to obtain certification upon hire (provided)
  • Available and willing to work afternoons, nights, and weekends
  • Able to attend mandatory job orientation and training on August 26 & 27

Club Sport Program Supervisor

Position Summary
Club Sport Program Supervisors are responsible for assisting with the overall organization, administration, and day-to-day operations of the Club Sport Program by serving as a liaison between the Assistant Director for Club Sports and each individual team. They assist with a variety of duties involving administrative tasks in the office as well as event management and supervision at games and practices. Supervisors are required to work nights and weekends throughout the year and a minimum of 3-5 hours per week.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Possess a high level of knowledge of all Club Sports policies and procedures (training provided)
  • Serve as the primary contact person for 3-5 clubs
  • Communicate regularly with team officers to assist them with their team’s operations and ensure compliance of all policies
  • Maintain current and accurate information regarding team membership, practices, competitions, travel, and special events
  • Assist with the collection and organization of all required paperwork
  • Hold weekly office hours and act as a customer service representative
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and scheduled in-service trainings
  • Perform random risk management checks at practices
  • Serve as an on-site supervisor for assigned home events:

  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic HTML and Photography
  • Creative with good organizational skills
  • A portfolio of your work ready to submit

Job Description
Work special events before, during and after building hours. Set up/tear down:  tables, chairs, signage, volleyball nets, official stands, badminton nets, tennis nets, divider nets, basketball goals, wallyball nets, water stations, technology (scoreboards, laptops, projection equipment, screens, TVs, conference phones, etc) and other equipment as needed. Provide standard of care by being certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED to respond to emergency situations during events. Provide access to facility before or after regular building hours. This position requires schedule flexibility as events will be held at varying times, typically evenings and weekends. 

Starting pay rate: Certified $13/hr
