Campus Recreation offers many opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student employment.

If you would like to apply for any positions, fill out the PDF application, save it to your computer and hand deliver it to the Member Services Office in the Flynn Recreation Complex. Some jobs may not have a PDF application. Instead, email the listed documents or information to the person listed in the job description.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (PRIVATE/SEMI-PRIVATE & SWIM LESSONS)

Job Description

  • Provide WSI based instruction to youth and adults
  • Teach lesson in packs of five, 30-60 minute blocks
  • Consistent weekly schedule

LIFEGUARD

Job Description

  • Prevent aquatic-related emergencies as a member of a risk management team
  • Provide great customer service
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks
  • Assist with special needs of members and guests in compliance with ADA regulations
  • Assist as a member of an event management team

  • Current CPR/AED, First Aid & Lifeguard certifications

CAMP COUNSELOR

Job Description

Camp Counselors work for 6 weeks over the summer with youth age 7-12.  Boston College Recreational Day Camp runs Monday through Friday between 8:00am-5:30pm.  Counselors will work between 4 to 8 hours each day and average around 28 hours a week.  If more hours are desired students may be able to work in others areas in the building to get close to 40 hours a week.  Counselors will lead the students in active games, board games, arts & crafts, swimming, and themed activities.  

Desired Qualifications

We are seeking energetic and responsible students who enjoy being around kids, will make the games we play fun, and still have energy to spare at the end of each day.  Applicants should also be patient, approachable, and understand that the job is to give the campers the best experience possible.  All counselors will need to be able to instill the guiding principles of the Boston College Recreation Day Camp.  We get in the pool daily so we prefer strong swimmers. A creative background is a huge bonus. We love counselors that bring new ideas for games and activities and can enhance the programming we already have. Counselors will also have to research and lead one craft project during the summer.

Requirements

  • Certified in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Previous camp counselor experience or history working with elementary aged children preferred.
  • Committed to work 30 hours per week for 6 weeks. June 27 – August 5, 2016
  • Must attend mandatory training & orientation June 21st, June 22nd, and June 23rd

Starting pay rate: $11.25/hr

CAMP SUPERVISOR

Job Description

Camp Supervisors work for 6 weeks over the summer with youth age 7-12.  In addition to leading the campers in activities, Camp Supervisors will also oversee the Camp Counselor team. Boston College Recreational Day Camp runs Monday through Friday between 8:00am-5:30pm.  Camp Supervisors work between 4 to 8 hours a day and will average between 30-35 hours per week.  If more hours are desired students may be able to work in others areas in the building to get close to 40 hours a week.  Camp Supervisors will lead the campers in active games, board games, arts & crafts, swimming, and themed activities.  Camp Supervisors will also evaluate the Camp Counselors and directly report to the Camp Directors any issues the camp is facing.

We will also be looking for one Camp Supervisor to work in the office 12 hours per week during the month of June to organize paperwork coming in from campers and staff.  During camp this requirement will be reduced to about 4 hours per week.

CAMP NURSE

Job Description

The Camp Nurse performs all the same duties as a Camp Counselor, but in addition the nurse responds to any medical needs the camp may have.  These duties include meeting with parents on the first day of each camp to discuss any medications a camper might need, administering regular medication to campers, documenting all administered medications, documenting all injuries, and sitting with a camper who may be overheated or sick.  The camp nurse is the first responder to all health and injury related incidents which occur at camp.

Desired Qualifications

First and foremost the Camp Nurse must have a good understanding of how to treat injuries and respond to health related incidents.  Many past Camp Nurses have been nursing students at Boston College.

Tennis Instructor

Marketing/Graphic Design Assistant

Job Description

  • Design posters, flyers, TV slides, schedules, forms, etc.
  • Update Campus Recreation website
  • Brainstorm content for and update our blog

Requirements

  • Must be able to work over the summer
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and InDesign
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic HTML and Photography
  • Creative with good organizational skills
  • Must have a portfolio of your work ready to submit

FITNESS ATTENDANT

Job Description

Fitness Attendants provide customer service to members and facility oversight. They staff the main fitness wing to provide assistance to members by spotting lifts or helping with equipment set-up, maintaining facility organization and cleanliness, enforcing policies, responding to emergencies, and offering fitness area and equipment orientations when scheduled. All staff in this role must be adult CPR/AED certified upon hire, and able to lift 45 lbs.

Requirements

  • Valid adult CPR/AED certification upon hire (okay to complete after hire, but needed before first shift)
  • Ability to lift at least 45 lbs.
  • Availability to work flexible hours
  • Working knowledge of fitness equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service
  • Maintain positive, upbeat and helpful attitutude
  • Perform shift task lists with regularity, attention to detail, and enthusiasm
  • Prepare the fitness areas for opening and/or closing
  • Maintain fitness center cleanliness
  • Enforce policies
  • Provide emergency response
  • Provide fitness area and equipment orientations upon request
  • No mobile phone use, computers, or tablets allowed during shift
  • Homework/reading only allowed during Summer Break only

EQUIPMENT DESK ATTENDANT

Job Description

Equipment Desk Attendants are responsible for checking and recording inventory throughout the day. Attendants will assist our members who would like to check out an item for their daily use. They will be responsible for sales using various forms of payment. In addition they will be responsible for booking reservations for courts and spin classes. The attendant will also be responsible for having an understanding of Campus Recreation offerings to act as an information desk for members. Attendant will also be responsible for keeping area clean at all times and laundry for our towel service.

Desired Qualifications

We are looking for applicants that are outgoing and will be engaging with our members. Applicants will need to be able to pay close attention to conditions of returned items and be able to ask for payment on any damaged equipment returned. The attendant will also need to be organized and willing to keep area clean at all times.

MEMBER SERVICES ATTENDANT

Job Description

Member Services Attendants are responsible for assisting all of our members and guests. They will be required to adhere to strict policies and procedures and willing to learn many different processes. The attendant will be responsible for selling memberships, lockers, towel service and registering our faculty, staff, students and members of the community for various programs. Attendant will also be responsible for filing and keeping very accurate accounts of daily sales. Applicant will assist the Member Services Manager with various administrative projects.

Desired Qualifications

We are looking for applicants that are outgoing and will be engaging with members. Applicant must be extremely organized and have very strong communication skills both in person and over the phone. The applicant will need to have the ability to learn new recreation software and be comfortable with Google docs and other Word applications. The attendant must be able to work independently and be comfortable acting as the main contract person for all memberships and programming questions.
