2150 Commonwealth Ave. Residence Hall Project

In 2014, the Boston College Board of Trustees gave approval for the construction of a new residence hall at 2150 Commonwealth Avenue, the site of More Hall.

The new residence hall will house 490 students, in a mixture of 4-bed and 6-bed apartments. The program for this building also includes two adult apartments, public spaces (including study lounges, a main commons, seminar rooms, floor lounges, laundries, et. al.) and a new home for the University Health Services Department.

The building will form a courtyard that is open to the southwest, encouraging pedestrian access to and from the heart of the BC campus, and maximizing the solar orientation of the open recreational green space.  The exterior materials will include brick, granite, a combination of flat and slate covered pitched roofs, and a mix of punched windows and curtain wall elements.

The preliminary construction work to prepare the site for building demolition began in April, 2014.  The building is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in the fall semester of 2016.

Ongoing site activities:

  • Building demolition is scheduled to begin in mid-June and be completed by mid-July.
  • Rock excavation and ledge removal are scheduled to begin in mid-June and be ongoing throughout July.
  • Site excavation is scheduled to begin in mid-July and continue through the summer.
  • Foundation work is scheduled to begin in August and continue through the fall.
