Allston-Brighton Groups Awarded Grants From Allston-Brighton/Boston College Community Fund
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (12-15-14) – A dozen Allston-Brighton organizations have been awarded a total of more than $33,000 in grants from Boston College via the Allston-Brighton/Boston College Community Fund.
The following groups were selected for Fall 2014 Allston-Brighton/Boston College Community Fund grants of up to $3,000 each:
Allston Board of Trade
Allston-Brighton Little League
Brighton Board of Trade
The Boston Minstrels
Boston Police Dept.
Charles River Conservancy
Franciscan Hospital for Children
Horace Mann School for the Deaf
Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly
The Literacy Connection
ScanWorks at Horace Mann
West End House Boys & Girls Club
Among the initiatives supported by these grants are: a youth basketball program; equipment purchase for adaptive sports for children with disabilities; enhanced hearing aid technology for the elderly; self-defense courses; English language tutoring and citizenship preparation programs; holiday light displays; a project to digitize archival neighborhood newspapers, and a technology education program.
The Allston-Brighton/Boston College Community Fund Committee is comprised of community residents and representatives of Boston College and the City of Boston. The Community Fund supports projects and initiatives of organizations, associations and programs serving Boston's Allston-Brighton neighborhood. The committee gives special consideration to proposals benefiting youth, senior citizens and the needy in Allston-Brighton as well as the beautification of the community.
