“The recent increase in bankruptcy filings of Massachusetts-based firms is similar to the overall national experience and not unexpected based on economic conditions. Firms that are most directly affected by consumer demand have realized lower cash flows and in some cases are unable to meet required payments on debt financing.  Firms facing larger debt maturities also have had more difficulty refinancing their debt, especially those which took on too much debt during the easier credit conditions of 2006 and earlier.”

EdithEdith Hotchkiss is an expert in corporate finance, specifically Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings; restructuring mechanisms for financially distressed firms; and transparency and efficiency of the corporate bond market.
