Style Guide

office of marketing communications

The Office of Marketing Communications’ editorial style guide was created as a quick reference tool to help Boston College communicators follow a style that is consistent and appropriate. The guide follows conventions outlined in the 15th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (University of Chicago Press, 2003), but there are exceptions specific to the University.

The following guidelines apply to some of the most commonly asked questions at Boston College and the style sheet is a work in progress.  For other style questions, refer to The Chicago Manual of Style, the 11th edition of Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, or call the Office of Marketing Communications, 2-4820.

For a detailed description of the Boston College Graphic Identity System (including templates for print publications, and information on Boston College seals, logotypes, colors, typography, stocks, inks, and varnishes), see graphic identity
