Graphic Identity System

office of marketing communications

Boston College has developed a Graphic Identity System and standards policy to be applied to all printed University communications. This policy has been instituted by the Office of the President to establish and maintain a consistent public image for the University that reinforces the mission and vision of Boston College. Any questions about the graphic standards policy should be addressed to Hallie Sammartino, managing director of marketing and communications. Technical questions about downloading the BC seal and working with typefaces should be addressed to Christine Hagg, art director.

The Office of Marketing Communications (OMC) has developed this Web site as a resource for those creating printed publications for the University. It provides information and templates for desktop publishers, professional graphic designers, and those with no design experience whatsoever. Use of this site requires the Macromedia Flash 4 or Flash 5 plug-in, which is available for free at www.adobe.com. Follow the appropriate links to download the Flash plug-in. This site will not function properly if accessed using the Flash 3 plug-in. The text below will tell you if your plug-in is up to date.

Use of the templates available through the Graphic Identity System Web site requires that you have the the Scala and Scala Sans typefaces installed on your computer and either Quark XPress 4 or Adobe PageMaker 6.5. Copies of the typefaces are available for free from OMC and can be obtained by e-mailing us or calling 617-552-4820. Installation and use of these fonts requires that you have Adobe Type Manager Light (ATM Light), which is available for free at www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/. Purchasing Quark XPress and Adobe PageMaker is the responsibility of your department.

For help installing fonts and software, please consult the Technology Consultant for your department. Questions related to design or technical problems with the Web site should be directed to omc@bc.edu. Please keep in mind that while we can offer counsel on design, we cannot offer support in the use of the software used for design.
