Yini Guan started working at the OISS this past summer. She has been a delightful and valuable addition to our office!
Originally from China, she is now a junior at BC studying Human Development with minors in Human Resource Management and Special Education. Her favorite aspect of BC is that everyone is very “enthusiastic” about volunteering. Not only is she part of PULSE, but she also is a member of Strong Women Strong Girls; this past fall she also became an IA (International Assistant) in a program where BC students are paired with new international students to assist them with adjustment to American culture and life at BC .
To her, being an IA is about “giving back.” She had such a wonderful and helpful IA when she first arrived that she wanted to return some “goodness to the community” by becoming one herself. She is currently paired with three students from China.
Meanwhile, she really enjoys trying new restaurants and bakeries, especially in Coolidge Corner. In addition, she loves going to the movies and seeing plays with friends.
Yini is a fearless, independent traveler. Her favorite place to visit in the world was Bhutan, and she looks forward to one day visiting Jerusalem. In the U.S. her favorite city is D.C., where she just recently took a trip with a friend.
Yini said that she feels “honored” to have the opportunity to work at the OISS, with the chance to meet different people and become even better in social situations. Since working here, she remarked, “I feel that I’ve become a stronger person.”
Thank you, Yini, for all your help!
