Letter from the Office of the Dean for Student Development

2007-2008 student guide

The Office of the Dean for Student Development (ODSD) is responsible for supporting the intellectual, spiritual, ethical, and personal formation of students through programs and services that complement their academic endeavors. This guide contains information on university departments and campus resources that are available to you beyond the academic realm.

Research has shown that cocurricular involvement will enhance your overall experience at Boston College. Through these activities, you will also develop personally and establish relationships that will last a lifetime. As such, we encourage you to take advantage of the multitude of opportunities available to you at Boston College.

In addition to providing opportunities for student growth, ODSD is responsible for upholding community standards. As a Jesuit University, Boston College has higher expectations for student behavior than you might find at other institutions. This means that ODSD is concerned with the manner in which you conduct yourself both on and off campus. It is important to familiarize yourself thoroughly with the Student Guide (available online at www.bc.edu/studentguide), because it outlines the rules and regulations for which you will be held accountable, as well as your rights and responsibilities as a student at BC.

During your time at Boston College, you will frequently find yourself in a position to make decisions, large and small, that can have an impact on yourself and others. We urge you to consider the possible ramifications of your behavior as you make these choices. Disciplinary sanctions often have far reaching effects.

If you have questions regarding any of the information provided to you in this guide, please stop by the ODSD office at 21 Campanella Way, Suite 212. Best of luck in all of your endeavors here at Boston College.
