Global Proficiency Program

The Global Proficiency Program is a program at Boston College, a unique joint initiative of Student Development and Academic Affairs. The program cohesively organizes a B.C. student's classes and activities around the theme of increased global awareness in order to document the student's accomplishments for employers and graduate schools. The program has 4 sets of requirements. The first component of the program is an international experience, usually a study abroad program, an internship overseas or a volunteer immersion program. The second component is academic, requiring that students take additional language courses as well as courses in the humanities and courses in social science, education, or business that are international or multicultural in focus. The thrid component is co-curricular: students must participate in four significant Co-curricular activities that are multicultural or international in nature, one of which is a service project. Finally, during thier senior year students have an opportunity to think about how all aspects of the program have affected them and their understanding of the world through a reflection project.
