The Symphonic Band, one of the latest additions to the comprehensive BC Bands Program, was created in the spring of 2003 by David Healey. The Symphonic Band provides opportunities for musicians of all ability levels to work together in the common pursuit of great wind literature and large-scale orchestral transcriptions. The Symphonic Band is comprised of dedicated musicians from BC and the surrounding community. The Symphonic Band performs an extensive repertoire of exciting and challenging music.

Past performances by the Symphonic Band have featured works as diverse as ‘Songs from the film Robin Hood’, ‘The American Dream’ from ‘Night Visions,’ and ‘Danza Final’. The aim of the ensemble is to create a transformative experience for the audience while encouraging the musical and artistic growth of its musicians. Under the direction of David Healey, the Symphonic Band performs four shows a year, including a Christmas program and an annual appearance during the Boston College Arts Festival. In October of 2007 the group performed for a standing room only crowd and presented an evening of 16th and 17th century music titled 'Aires and Dances'. Currently the Symphonic Band is in rehearsals for their April 8, 2008 performance. This engagement will include works by Samuel Barber and L. Van Beethoven.
The Symphonic Band rehearses twice a week, one full ensemble rehearsal from 7:00PM to 9:00PM every Monday and one smaller sectional which will be held at the discretion of the Section Leader.
