The Boston College Maroon and Gold Pep Bands offer
students the excitement of participating in athletic events during the Men’s
and Woman’s Basketball and Men’s Hockey Seasons. Students with expertise on all wind instruments, drum set,
and auxiliary percussion are encouraged to participate.
The Maroon and Gold Pep Bands perform more than any
other ensemble at Boston College. With a membership of approximately 80-90
students per year, the band is comprised of the Maroon and Gold ensembles to
provide a well-balanced band at all athletic events. This creates ample opportunity for the BC Pep Band members
to support Boston College Athletics, travel to fun and exciting athletic
events, as well as to get airtime on regional and national sports broadcasts. The
Pep Band ensembles are the musical voice of Boston College athletic traditions
from nearly a century of Hockey and Basketball.
The Maroon and Gold Pep Bands recently welcomed Mr.
Aaron Goldberg as their new musical director. You may have heard of Mr. Goldberg as a former cast member
of the now famed musical phenomenon “Blast”. The Maroon and Gold Pep Bands offer leadership opportunities
to those students who wish to excel.
The current student leaders for the 2008 season are Kristen Schratz, Claire
Donohue, Laura Tracy, and Ben Geisler.
In recent years the band has traveled to the
following locations during the regular and tournament season: Men's Hockey
Frozen Four/National Championship: Milwaukee, WI; St. Louis MO. Hockey East
Tournament: Manchester, NH. BeanPot Tournament: Fleet Center, Boston, MA;
Women's Basketball NCAA Tournament: Charlottesville, NC; ACC Tournament:
Greensboro, NC;
Men's Basketball NCAA Tournament: Winston-Salem, NC;
Minneapolis, MN; ACC Tournament: Tampa, FL
Membership is open to BC undergraduates and
graduate students. This ensemble
does not require an audition.
Members typically have prior experience playing in student level
ensembles. The Maroon and Gold Pep Bands season runs from mid October through
April, according to the tournament fortunes of the Men's Hockey and Men's and
Women's Basketball teams.
