Ignatian Society of Boston College

WHO WE ARE

The Ignatian Society of Boston College is a group of Boston College students who seek to introduce other students to the history of the Ignatian  spiritual tradition in order to place its particular charism and methods of prayer at the service of their personal  growth and discernment. Through its various programs and activities, the Ignatian Society intends to provide students with creative  ways to appropriate the riches of the Ignatian tradition.

Members of the Ignatian Society heighten knowledge of, and interaction with, the Jesuit community, spread an understanding of God's presence in all things, and help in the formation of men and women for others.

Programs

The Ignatian Society's social programs seek to strengthen the bond between two great communities here at Boston College: the undergraduate students and the Jesuits. All BC students are welcome to participate in any and all events.  Such opportunities include:

Lunches with Jesuits

Weekly Examen on Campus

The “Examen” program is a weekly reflection opportunity for Boston College freshmen.  Modeled after the daily reflections of Jesuit priests,  also known as the “examination of conscience,”  the guided reflections of the Examen help students to focus their thoughts while still allowing them the freedom to reflect on what is important to them as individuals.
The program targets freshmen, specifically, because they experience unique challenges and anxieties during their transition into college and could benefit greatly from a tool that helps them in their constant process of discernment.

Reflection sessions last 15-30 minutes and are held in a relaxed, comfortable environment.  In addition to providing an opportunity for reflection, th e Examen gives freshmen the chance to relax and decompress from their frantic schedules.  Student members of the Ignatian Society, in conjunction with Peer Ministers, design and lead the weekly reflections.

Retreat

The Ignatian Society will host a 3-day retreat for students in the spring.  The retreat will be for all students at BC from any class who is interested in their relationship with God; graduates of Jesuit High Schools will be specifically encouraged to attend.

The retreat will be focused on the first week of the Spiritual Exercises. The Spiritual Exercises, created by Ignatius of Loyola, will offer a great opportunity for students to grow spiritually. This retreat will be different than the others currently offered at BC.

Bi-Monthly Ignatian Calendar of Events

Every 2 weeks
Twice a month, the Ignatian Society will send out an e-mail to all interested individuals with a list of Ignatian related activities and speakers occurring on campus.  As inboxes get flooded with listserv e-mails and speaker announcements, we hope this can be a central source for Ignatian Society members can refer to in order to find events that pertain to their interests and passions.

Ignatian Society & Kairos Listserv Forms:

This form allows you to make a direct request to be
added or removed to either
(1) the main Ignatian Society Listserv for news, updates and activities for the society as a whole or
(2) the Kairos alumni Listserv.

Please note: If you want to be removed from either listserv, you must be careful to specify the email address under which you were added. Most likely this was your "BCusername@bc.edu" format. This is especially important if you are an alumnus/a receiving Kairos emails. For simplicity, we recommend you list all BC emails (e.g. username@bc.edu & first.lastname.#@bc.edu) and any email address you have sent to us since your graduation. Even if you are an alumus/a receiving the messages to a non-BC account, you should list the BC addresses as they are often being forwarded from the BC server.
