Job Types

The Office of Learning Resources for Student-Athletes offers a variety of employment opporuntities for undergraduate and graduate students. Listed below are the descriptions of the various student employee positions available during the academic year. We have a limited number of opportunities during the summer months.

General requirements are: completing a job application (available on the web), providing the names of 2 references, and scheduling an interview when requested. You will also be required to complete the Conditions of Employment statement that addresses responsible work habits, confidentiality and ethics incumbent on you when working with student-athletes. You will also be required to fulfill all requirements for employment at Boston College (I9 form, W2, direct deposit, etc.) Your supervisor will go through this with you at the time of hire.

COMPENSATION: Salaries paid to student employees are set by the Student Employment Office located in Student Services in Lyons Hall. They are commensurate with other campus positions. Specific payments will be discussed upon hiring at LRSA.

Support Staff to the Administrative Assistant

Support Staff aids the Administrative Assistant in her management of the day to day operations of the office in the Yawkey Athletics Center. The following are requirements for the position.

Currently a full time undergratudate student at Boston College.
Students must be able to type.
Other duties of the support staff include: receptionist duties, scheduling of appointments, telephone contact, data entry, mail distribution, statistical reports, filing and other duties as needed.


LRSA Study Center Monitor.

Monitors have primary supervision responsibility for the LRSA Study Center. They also serve as the monitors for the LRSA Study Hall Program. The following are requirements for the position.

Currently a graduate student at Boston College.
Have good communication skills, able to supervise as many as 40 student-athletes during study time, and coordinate tutorial help for those students.
Monitors are responsible for opening, closing, securing the LRSA Study Center, as well as maintaining a good study environment.
Computer experience - able to address problems inherent in running a 10 station computer lab.
Monitors need to be comfortable maintaining a proper study atmosphere in the LRSA Study Center.

Content Tutors

Content tutors provide course content assistants to student-athletes in a wide variety of subjects. Tutors in areas of the undergraduate core in A&S and CSOM are at a premium. The following are requirements for the position.

Content tutors must be undergraduate or graduate students in good standing at Boston College.
Content tutors must be able to meet weekly with students assigned to them.
Content tutors should be familiar with the Boston College curriculum and use procedures that empower students.
Content tutors are expected to keep accurate records of sessions to aid academic counselors in assessment of student-athlete effort.
Tutors must attend the training sessions offered by LRSA, and will have an opportunity to receive tutor certification.

Instructional Assistant

Instructional Assistants (IAs) provide developmental instruction to student-athletes. While also content specific, much of the IA's work focuses on study skills vital to success at Boston College. The follwing are requirement for the position.

IAs must be graduate students in good standing at Boston College
IAs must be able to meet twice weekly with assigned students, providing both content and process support.
Under direction of the Learning Specialist, the IAs will help develop, implement and evaluate instructional plans for individual student-athletes.
IAs need good oral and written communication skills.
IAs should be familiar with the Boston College curriculum and use procedures that empower students.
IAs are expected to keep accurate records of sessions to aid academic counselors in assessment of student-athlete effort.
IAs must attend the training sessions offered by LRSA, and will have an opportunity to receive tutor certification.
