The mission of Learning Resources for Student Athletes (LRSA) is to provide academic and personal support services to all varsity student-athletes with the goal that each student-athlete will be provided a fair opportunity to achieve her/his potential of intellectual, social, and personal development.
To these ends, LRSA assists students on varsity teams with academic program planning, personal adjustment counseling, academic and life skills instruction, and monitors the progress of student-athletes towards these goals.
Each varsity team is assigned an academic counselor. This counselor is the primary contact for student-athletes seeking academic assistance. Counselor assignments are made each fall before classes begin. Students should get to know their academic counselor. The academic counselor is not a substitute for the faculty advisor. Each student-athlete, like all undergraduates, is assigned a faculty advisor for advice on courses, curriculum, career, and academic life. LRSA encourages students to utilize this special relationship. LRSA counseling focuses on areas other than course selection except as supplementary to the role of the faculty advisor.
In addition to LRSA, there are a number of academic resources available on BC's campus. The BC faculty often serves as the greatest resource for any student-athlete. Seeking out and spending time with faculty members outside of class time can be one of the most rewarding academic experiences. Widespread faculty interest and availability remains part of what separates BC from other Division I schools. Your academic dean's office serves as another repository of vital information. In addition, the O'Neill Library, the Career Center, the Counseling Center, the Connors Family Learning Center, AHANA Student Programs Office, and others offer academic and personal assistance in all areas of student life.
