BC's campus is electronically open to millions of Internet users. Computer security and virus protection are shared responsibilities for all BC community members.
Computer viruses endanger the integrity of your computer, your work, and the entire BC network. To help protect your computer and the network, BC provides free anti-virus software for the entire time you are enrolled at the University.
BC Anti-Virus Software is Required
All students who use the BC network are required to use and maintain the special BC anti-virus software supported by Boston College. Failure to comply will result in loss of network access. In addition, if a student computers appears to be spreading a virus on the network, the computer's network access will be suspended.
If you are currently using non supported anti-virus software, such as Norton Home, you must uninstall it prior to installing the BC version of anti-virus software. For step-by-step instructions to uninstall unsupported anti-virus software, installing and maintaining anti-virus, go to www.bc.edu/virus. Don't risk losing network access!
Additional Protection for Windows Users
ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO)
Windows users, when you arrive on campus and connect to the BC network for the first time, you will be required to install "ePO" as part of the Activation process. ePO is a special "management agent" that works with the BC McAfee anti-virus software, and allows BC Information Technology Services to "push" critical anti-virus updates to your computer as soon as the updates become available.
Anti-Spyware Software
BC Information Technology Services highly recommends that you also download and install anti-spyware software. Learn more about anti-spyware software.
