All full-time undergradutes will have a BC phone number
Your BC phone number is assigned to you for the duration of your education at BC. If you live on campus, your phone features voicemail, call waiting, call forwarding, and 3-way conferencing at no additional cost.
Local calls (617 & local 781) are free! Most students use their cell phones or a calling card for long distance calls.
How to activate your phone on campus
When you arrive on campus, simply plug your phone into the phone jack by your bed. Call
5-DIAL (5-3425) and follow the voice prompts.
Voicemail
All full-time undergraduates have a voicemail box associated with their BC phone number. To access your voicemail, dial 617-552-4006 (or 2-4006 on campus). For directions to setup your
voicemail box, take a look at the
Voicemail Setup Guide. You can also access the BC Voicemail system via the web at
vmail.bc.edu.
What type of phone should I bring?
If you're living on campus, bring a standard touch-tone phone with a cord. Make sure that the # key on your phone does not function as the "redial button." You need the # key to activate your phone and use voicemail. A cordless phone is not recommended because there are so many lines in such a small space on campus, you may experience a great deal of interference and crossed lines. This means your private conversations could be heard by others. As a voicemail box is provided, you don't need to bring an answering machine.
How to get help
Don't forget, if you need assistance with anything related to computing and communications, just dial: (617) 552- HELP (4357).
