From the classrooms and libraries to your own room, you can be plugged in and on-line with ease.
The Wired Network
Boston College was one of the first universities to build an infrastructure that allows students to simply plug into the walls of their dorm rooms and be easily connected to the campus network. BC's wired network switches accommodate 10/100 or 10/100/1000 Ethernet cards. See the bottom of the page for instructions on how to connect to the Boston College wired network.
The Wireless Network
With the advent of our wireless network, we've provided even more possibilities to be connected on campus. The BC wireless network supports the 802.11b standard (also known as 802.11b High Rate or Wi-Fi) only. It specifies an 11 Megabit/second data transmission rate. Your computer's actual wireless speed is dependant on your network card, but A, B, or G standards are supported.
Illegally Downloading Movies & Music
Never share or download copyrighted material such as MP3s or movies. It is stealing, and students who violate copyright laws are subject to legal and disciplinary action.
