Hardware and Software Recommendations

information technology services

This Web site is intended to facilitate the purchase of hardware and software products for use in university schools and departments.

Computers are also available for faculty, staff, and student personal purchase through www.bc.edu/laptop.

Notes for Instructors:

Audio Visual (AV) technology is available in many classrooms on campus. To learn more, visit media classroom profiles.

Boston College now has a site license for Wimba Classroom (Web Conferencing Tool). Teach and meet live online. Fully featured live virtual classrooms support audio, video, application sharing, and content display, enabling instructors to add vitally important elements of interaction that simply cannot be provided in a text-based course. Instructors can personalize their online courses by holding live, online classes, office hours, guest lectures, webcasts and meetings. This application can be used as a stand-alone product/web conferencing tool, or integrated into Blackboard Vista. For assistance using the Wimba Classroom in your instruction, contact eteach@bc.edu. You can view a detailed product description at http://www.wimba.com/products/wimba_classroom/#wC-features.

Support for Recommended Hardware and Software
On each of the pages you will find details on the level of support we can provide on the recommended product(s).

When a product is listed as "fully supported" it means that we have tested it and are confident in its functionality and that, in general within ITS, we have the skills to support the use of the product, troubleshoot any problems, and have certified technicians to replace any hardware or parts.

When a product is not fully supported by ITS it means that we will make every effort to assist you with using or troubleshooting this product but we may need to call in outside resources to assist us, and/or to send it out for repair.

Need help selecting software or hardware?
An ITS staff member will work with you to determine which software or hardware best fits your needs. Use the consultation request form.
