ITS at Orientation 2012

06/27/12

Seven Orientation programs for the Class of 2016 take place in June, July, and August. Every Tuesday, ITS EagleTechs Ellen Contois ('15) and Chris Jamieson ('13) deliver presentations to four groups of incoming students.

Topics covered include:

  • Keeping your data safe and secure.
  • Using online resources such as the Agora Portal and Blackboard Vista.
  • Getting technology help at BC.
  • Considering your online reputation.

Here's what Ellen and Chris have to say about their Orientation experience so far:

"Working as an EagleTech and giving orientation presentations this summer has helped me learn more about the services that the IT department offers (I have even discovered many things that I knew nothing about this entire year!). Meeting and interacting with incoming freshman has allowed me to contribute to the BC community and see some of my friends who are rising Eagles. Presenting with Chris is always a humorous experience and filming our video spoofs was painstaking, unforgettable, and perhaps the funniest moments I’ve had at BC. I'm very grateful that I've been given such a wonderful opportunity to work with both FYE and ITS this summer!" (Ellen Contois)

"Presenting about ITS to the freshmen orientation groups has been the most memorable experience of my 3 years as an EagleTech.  It doesn't seem like all that long ago that I was sitting in that lecture hall learning about ITS myself.  My goal is to make this as memorable an experience for them as it is for me, and to help them look forward to their time here at BC.  The laughs we get throughout our presentations and videos ensure that I am doing that.  I am also glad to be informing them of the technology and resources here on campus that will help make their transition from high school to college as smooth as possible." (Chris Jamieson)

The work on the presentation started well before the first one on June 12. During the spring semester, Ellen, Chris, and a cast of other EagleTechs spent time refining the presentation and filming videos that are incorporated into it.

This year's theme is "Techflix," and the students created movie spoofs to tie into technology themes. Enjoy the sample below!
