AM-CR
The PeopleSoft database used to manage scheduling, model selection, and inventory for the BCCR program. It can be accessed over the web using Internet Explorer.

Boston College Computer Replacement program.

DC
Department Contact.
Department Contact
The person within a department who acts as a liaison between ITS and the members of his/her department. You read more about the DC's role at bc.edu/bccr/dc_resources.html.

F

FY
Fiscal Year. Boston College's Fiscal Year runs from June 1 through May 31. For example FY09 represents the fiscal year beginning June 1, 2008 and ending May 31, 2009.

L

Leopard
The version of Mac OS X distributed on Apple computers during FY09 and the beginning of FY10. Leopard is Mac OS 10.5.

M

Mac OS X
The operating system (OS) that comes with all Apple computers.

P

PDA
Personal Digital Assistant. A PDA is a small handheld device for storing and organizing information such as contacts, calendars, notes, and email. A Palm Pilot is an example of a PDA.
PeopleSoft
The system used to manage the AM-CR database for the BCCR program. It can be accessed over the web using Internet Explorer.
Peripheral
A device that is directly connected to your computer, such as a scanner, printer, or PDA.

R

Reach Back
A reach back occurs when a computer cannot be installed during a department's scheduled deployment dates, such as when staff who are scheduled to receive a new computer are on vacation or out sick. The BCCR team will work with the DC to "reach back" to install any computers that could not be deployed during the department's scheduled deployment.

S

Smartphone
A cell phone that also has PDA functionalities. Smartphones may also provide other functions such as web browsing. Examples of smartphone include the iPhone or Treo.
Snow Leopard
The version of Mac OS X distributed with Apple computers beginning the second half of FY10.

T

TC
Technology Consultant.
Technology Consultant

U

USMT
User State Migration Tool. USMT is the software the BCCR team uses to transfer the settings and files from your old computer to your new one. USMT is made by Microsoft and can only be used on Windows computers.

W

Windows
The operating system made by Microsoft. All Dell computers at BC come with Windows. Windows 7 is currently being deployed.
