Mission:
To advance the Application Architecture Environment so as to position Information Technology Services as a provider of quality services to all members of the Boston College community by developing, supporting and delivering state of the art applications that further the mission and vision of Boston College.
The Application Infrastructure program encompasses work in the following areas:
- Portal
- Application Server
- Relational Databases
- Messaging Tools
- Application Development Tools
Current Work:
The Applications Infrastructure team is currently working on modernizing the application architecture that is in place at Boston College. Specifically, the objective is to design, develop and implement a framework that will provide both a migration strategy and integration platform for existing and future applications. This includes the selection and implementation of technologies that will help us move from our current architecture to a Service Oriented Architecture based on J2EE and supporting open standard technologies.
The following goals will be served by this work on the enterprise applications architecture:
- Replace the existing mainframe architecture
- Leverage technology in support of the University mission
- Include service oriented application architecture
- Include data architecture, design and implementation
- Provide legacy migration strategy
- Provide framework for new Student Information System
