Discover more about the technology at Boston College. Everything from who supports the email servers to how faculty can get assistance with utilizing technology in teaching and research. Below, we have deciphered some of the acronyms for various organizations on-campus that support BC’s technology effort.

Information Technology ServicesITS is a division of over 200 staff members that provide technology services to the entire campus. ITS is divided into 4 sub-departments: Support Services, Network Services, Applications & Systems Services and the ITS Project Management Office. ITS hosts the Help Center website.

  • Technology Consultants - TCs serve the ever-increasing technology support needs of faculty and staff by providing local technology support. 
  • Media Technology Services - MTS provides the University community with a full range of audio visual support. Examples of services include: digital audio recording, CD-ROM production, DVD production, digital video, digital photo and multimedia production, creative graphics services, state-of-the-art instructional classrooms, TV satellite conferencing, technical repair services, and select live TV remote telecasts.
  • Research Services - The support that Research Services provides is very broad.  For example, the Research Services staff:  assists with databases and web interfaces to databases; provides technical expertise on a variety of software; will put together and give customized discipline-specific classes on a variety of statistical research topics using Matlab, Mathematica, or GIS. 

Campus Technology Resource Center - The CTRC is a public computing facility for the entire campus, as well as a Walk-In Help Desk.

Instructional Design and eTeaching ServicesIDES are geared specifically toward supporting faculty in their use of technology for daily use, teaching, and research. The following are sub-departments within Instructional Design and eTeaching Services:

  • Interactive Multimedia Lab - IML assists with the integration of technologies in teaching and research. This ranges from helping to create an online survey to digitizing photos, audio and video for inclusion in websites, CDs, DVDs, or PowerPoint presentations.
  • Faculty Microcomputer Resource Center - The FRMC is a computing resource center run by faculty for faculty. FMRC services include: statistical and research computing, eLearning approaches, developing web-based materials, learning about new hardware and software, making faculty technology concerns heard and represented.

Office of Marketing Communications - OMC provides marketing counsel and related editorial, photographic, and graphic design services to the Boston College community. The office assists all units of the University. The OMC has worked with the Boston College Magazine; the Boston College Annual Report; the Boston College website; the Office of the President; and development, alumni, and admissions across the University.

Boston College University Libraries - The BC Libraries provide information resources and services to support teaching, learning, and research at Boston College. The BC libraries offer a wealth of resources in technology and research, including the BC Libraries' online catalog, online databases, electronic journals (e-journals), electronic books (e-books), online research guides, and much more.
