BC INTERNATIONAL Summer Offerings
Each summer, BC courses are offered abroad provide students with a culturally enriching and academically significant experience.
Summer courses abroad play an important role in our overall strategy of international education at Boston College. For our students they represent a unique academic opportunity in a different cultural setting, they allow some students to go abroad who may otherwise be restricted during the semester, and they enable underclassmen “to get their feet wet” as an entry-level international experience that might eventually lead to a longer term abroad.
Courses are open to all Boston College students regardless of class year or GPA. Students will receive enrichment credit for BC summer courses — i.e., courses can count toward major, minor, or core requirements but will not lessen the total number of classes needed to graduate. Summer courses will appear on the transcript but are not factored into the BC GPA. If you are a student who needs to make up for deficiencies incurred through a course failure, withdrawal, or underloading, you can receive degree credit for summer courses if you complete the necessary course approval form with your class dean.
In addition, BC summer courses abroad are also open to students from other universities. Non-BC students should check with their home university about their credit transfer policy for summer courses.
summer Teaching Abroad for BC Faculty
The Office of International Programs invites Boston College faculty across all schools and disciplines to propose undergraduate courses abroad.
As a faculty member, a summer course abroad offers you the chance to teach your expertise in a specific geographic setting. A summer course may also allow you to try out a new and innovative course, one that you have always wanted to teach here at Boston College but have never found the opportunity to do so.
To propose a course for summer 2010, please click here. The deadline for proposals is June 30, 2009. If you have questions about teaching a summer course abroad please contact Abby Berenson.
