The Global Proficiency Program (GPP) at Boston College is a unique joint initiative of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. It aims to cohesively organize classes and activities around the theme of increased global awareness. GPP is a certificate program for undergraduates that can be completed in addition to any academic major and minor. The program helps students take a holistic approach to time spent abroad, academic coursework, and co-curricular activities. Upon successful completion the program, graduates receive an official Global Proficiency transcript and certificate that will distinguish them with employers, graduate schools, and volunteer programs.
The program has 4 sets of requirements:
1) international experience: usually a study abroad program, an internship overseas or a volunteer immersion program;
2) academic component: additional language courses, as well as courses in the humanities, social science, education, or business that are international or multicultural in focus;
3) co-curricular component: students must participate in four significant co-curricular activities that are multicultural or international in nature, one of which is a service project;
4) reflection project: helps students to process what it meant for them to participate in the program and its potential impact on their future.
Other programs sponsored by the Office of International Students & Scholars.
