Study-Abroad Highlights

office of international programs

As we welcome our students back to BC, we also welcome their feedback. Here are some examples of what returning students shared from around the word:

photoLindsay Augenthaler (Nursing '08)
University of Melbourne, Australia

“The best aspect of my program was living in St. Mary's College. The college was small enough where I knew everyone and I got close to so many Australians who I know I'll be friends with for life. I learned so much more about Australia from knowing them and I feel like they helped me make Melbourne my home.”

photoKyle McCulloch (Biology '08)
Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador

“The things you will see and experience are unlike anything you have ever seen before in your life.”

photoAmy Piepiora (Human Development '08)
Casa de la Solidaridad, El Salvador

“I’ve grown deeply interested in women's rights - specifically at risk adolescent girls, gang issues, Latin American politics and relationship with the US. I interviewed refugees from El Salvador's civil war about their experiences and their current day situations as well.”

photoJeannine Rua (Marketing '08)
Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, China

“I’ve grown interested in learning about different cultures and their histories and how that relates to what that peoples culture is today”

photoReeves Wiedeman (International Studies '08)
University of Cape Town, South Africa

“You have the opportunity to explore a part of the world most people will never see.”

photoDanielle Beverson (Education '08)
University of Liverpool, England

“I liked learning about a different education system and the friendships I made (almost entirely with natives of my host country) are very important to me. I became more independent and self-reliant.”

photoGrace Choi (International Studies '08)
Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona), Spain

“Learning further about the artistic influence on a culture has made me fall in love with Picasso, Gaudi, and Dali. The on-site coordinator, the trips, the classes, the students in the language exchange program, and the city and all its wonders!”

photoEvan Geilich (Economics '08)
BC in Madrid, Spain

“I very much enjoyed going abroad to Madrid and would recommend it to other students. My favorite parts of being abroad were seeing what life was like in another country and city, traveling around Spain and to other parts of Europe, meeting Spanish kids in my residencia, making new friends while abroad, greatly improving my Spanish, and going out at night in Madrid.”

photoNicholas DeRenzo (History '08)
NYU in Prague, Czech Republic

“Courses are manageable and fun. The city of Prague and all of its resources are integrated into the course work. In my politics class, we met the former prime minister. Architecture classes are held in the castle. Journalism students can meet with editors of national newspapers and interview Czech cultural icons (musicians, sculptors, writers).”

photoJenna Wright (Marketing '08)
The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies, China

“The trips -- one 2-week long trip, one 1-week long trip. They were AMAZING. They allowed us to leave Beijing and see other parts of China, parts of China that most people normally don't get to see. Everyone had an awesome time, experienced everything together, bonded, most memorable moments occurred on the trips.”

Amy Kyleen Lute (Economics & Theology '10)
CIEE Amman, Jordan
, "I am developing this very cursory theory of convergent evolution of cultures...take the Middle Eastern and Latin American cultures. Both have a very machismo attitude among the men but both are truly orchestrated and helped up by the women...One of my main goals while I am here is to get a better understanding of why Jordanian women wear the hijab." Read more>
