BC Programs

Visit the Getting Started page to begin planning your study abroad experience. With your academic goals and interests in mind, research different types of programs.

Complete the Advising Questionnaire by clicking the 'Apply Now' button on any program page. This is required to continue in the process.

Schedule a Study Abroad 101 MeetingMontserrat students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with the Montserrat Advisor next. Visit the Meeting with the OIP page for more details.

Continue to research programs and note questions or concerns for your next meeting with an OIP Advisor. Students should consider how going abroad fits their academic plans and speak to their academic department about what courses may count. Learn about scholarships and grants.

Submit the OIP online application by the stated deadline.  Some programs have an early deadline. The application will be available to students who have completed steps 2 and 3. Students interested in a BC or an external program must complete this step to be approved to study abroad.

After the deadline the OIP will review the student’s academic and disciplinary record against specific program requirements and approve students to apply with the host institution. Certain programs may have space restrictions. Eligible students who are not approved to apply to the program they have selected may choose another program, provided the program still has openings.

Once approved, students complete the application for the host institution. Instructions will be available in the OIP application system.

Students receive notification of official acceptance from their host institution between April and June for most fall/academic year programs or between September and early November for spring programs. Students with questions regarding the status of their application should contact the OIP Applications Team, not the host institution.

As a requirement, all students attend an assigned Pre-Departure Orientation meeting.

Once approved, students need to obtain written approval from their home academic department (except Economics majors) and submit forms to the OIP before proceeding directly to the external program provider’s application. Students are responsible for completing all parts of the external programs application.

Students complete the application for the host institution. This will be done either through the program provider's website or by the student mailing the materials to the provider. Some providers may require that a form be completed by a BC dean or advisor; all such forms should be submitted to your OIP Program Manager for completion.

Students receive notification of acceptance directly from the approved external program provider and should forward a copy of the acceptance letter or email to the OIP.

As a requirement, all students attend an assigned Pre-Departure Orientation meeting.
