    McGillycuddy-Logue Travel Grants

    In the spring of 2008, Boston College announced the establishment of the McGillycuddy-Logue Center for Undergraduate Global Studies.
    As part of this initiative, Boston College students who meet the eligibility criteria and plan on studying abroad on BC summer, semester or full-year programs are encouraged to submit an application for the McGillycuddy-Logue Travel Grant.

    Spring ACC-IAC Scholarships awarded

    Jeffrey Skowera (A&S, '10) and Christine Glaser (A&S, '10) are the recipients of the ACC International Academic Collaborative Scholarships for the spring semester of 2009. Jeff will be studying at Al Akhawayn University in Morocco and Christine will be a student at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

    featuring The Whitcher Award

    The Sally Whitcher Award, two $500 travel scholarships awarded each semester, is a valuable opportunity open to any college student in eastern New England planning to travel and/or study abroad. Award recipients maintain blogs while abroad.
    Boston College students are well-represented among applicants.

    Margaux Whitney (A&S, '10) will travel to Managua Nicaragua to study philosophy, history, literature, and art at Universidad Centroamericana in the spring of 2009.
    Catherine “Kaki” Stamateris (A&S, '10) was chosen as one of the fall 2008 Whitcher Award recipients and is currently attending the BC program in Nepal.

    freeman-ASIA awards discontinued

    The Institute of International Education regrets to announce that the Spring 2009 competition is the last in this generous grant sponsored by the Freeman Foundation. Freeman-ASIA awards will not be available for Summer 2009 and beyond.
    Since 2001, the Freeman-ASIA program has supported over 4,000 U.S. undergraduates to study abroad in East and Southeast Asia and reached thousands more through alumni outreach activities on campuses and in local communities.

    Joanne Tsang (A&S, '10) is a recipient of the Freeman-ASIA Award for the fall semester of 2008, to support her study abroad at Peking University in Beijing. Andrew Fudge (A&S, '10) was named alternate recipient.

    BC student awarded jasso scholarship

    The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), announced the selection of Tyler Marquardt (A&S, '10) for the JASSO Scholarship, to support his study abroad at Sophia University in Tokyo for the academic year 2008-09. More information on scholarships for international students in Japan here.

    Gilman fall awards Announced

    During the Spring 2008 application cycle, three scholarships were awarded to Boston College students, Joanne Tsang (A&S, '10 - The Beijing Institute of Asian Studies, Peking University), John Choi (A&S, '10 - Sogang University), and Stafford Oliver (A&S, '10 - SOAS, University of London).

    DAAD RISE SCHOLARSHIP

    The RISE scholarship gives north American undergraduate students in the fields of biology, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering and physics the opportunity to spend a summer working with German doctoral students on major research projects. All participants receive stipends from DAAD to help cover living expenses and partner universities and research institutions provide housing assistance. You do not need German language skills for most positions; the working language will generally be English.

    Students who have a true passion for excelling, and are interested in pursuing opportunities abroad, are invited to meet with Christina Dimitrova, BC Coordinator for the ACCIAC, NSEP/David L. Boren, Benjamin Gilman, Bridging, Freeman-ASIA, McGillycuddy-Logue, and Rotary scholarships.

    Candidates are required to contact their coordinator before applications are due. You may also schedule an appointment online. Discover additional opportunities and guidance through the University Fellowships Committee.

    Suggested scholarship opportunities for students planning to study abroad:
    • ACC International Academic Collaborative Scholarships
      for all students going abroad on BC programs administered by the Office of International Programs (OIP), including summer programs.
    • Advanced Study Grants in the Arts
      to encourage, support, and give visible recognition to first- and second-year students who have that special spark of scholarly initiative and imagination, including summer "skill acquisition" projects that promise to accelerate dramatically the applicant's progress in the major field of study.
    • Amanda V. Houston Traveling Scholarship
      to further prepare BC undergraduates of African descent for leadership in the U.S. and in the world at large by enriching their personal and educational development through travel and/or participation in a recognized study-abroad program that earns at least 6 units of academic credit.
    • Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
      for U.S. citizen undergraduates who receive a Federal Pell Grant.
    • Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
      to assist students with travel and living expenses while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year.
    • IIPP Fellowship Program in International Affairs
      Sophomores, especially AHANA students, interested in public policy and global leadership.
    • McGillycuddy-Logue Travel Grant
      Students going abroad on BC programs, including summer, who receive BC institutional financial aid for the time they plan to study abroad.
    • Morgan Stanley Scholarships for Study in Japan
      for juniors and seniors interested in economics and international finance studying in Japan for an academic year
    • National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships
      to encourage and support U.S. students of all years who wish to acquire proficiency and experience in less commonly studied languages and cultures through study abroad, post-undergraduate or graduate programs, summer programs included.
    • Rotary Scholarships
      both undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships to finance foreign study, application deadlines and availability vary by club.
    • Sally Whitcher Awards
      to promote world peace through global travel for college students, including summer.
