Boston College students report that study abroad provides one of their most meaningful and challenging experiences during college. At the Office of International Programs we feel that students can maximise this venture by taking time to reflect. For this reason, OIP will host the third Outpost Retreat in October 2014. Navigating new cultures, adjusting to classes, international travel, and making new friends can make your time abroad fly by, so we invite you to take a weekend to slow down and contemplate this valuable life experience.

Outpost Weekend is an opportunity for BC students who are studying abroad in Europe to regroup, reflect and reconnect. Join fellow students, as well as faculty and staff from BC, in a weekend designed to help you get the most out of your time in Europe.

Outpost will kick off on Thursday, October 16, 2014 with a reception at the Boston College - Ireland property on St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin. The reception will include all students attending the Outpost Weekend as well as Boston College faculty and staff (a great way to network and make connections).

Following the reception, the group will depart for a weekend at Kippure Estate (about 40 mins south of Dublin).  This historic hunting lodge in the southern hills of Ireland will provide the perfect backdrop for students to examine the early impacts of the study abroad experience, and to prepare for the adventures that lie ahead. The program will run through Sunday morning and includes transportation back to Dublin.

Student participants will be responsible for travel costs to and from Dublin. The weekend program (including travel from Dublin to Kippure and return) is free and will be offered to any student who is studying in Europe for the Fall 2014 semester.
